How bad is the upscaling?

Not too bad actually! It’s in 1080i for the 30p scenes.

what does that have to do with upscaling? it could be made at any resolution and what you just said could still be true.

Interlaced Frames on Progressive Screen will have a horizontal look stripe lines. Turn on Deinterlacing in VLC set in Blend mode.
