(Locally it's held each December) The easiest level is "5" which corresponds to a grade 2 Elementary school knowledge level, and the most difficult level is "1", corresponding to Grade 6 completion. To achieve level 1, it usually takes around 2000 hours of study to learn the grammar and vocabulary portion of what the exam covers

@Golfspite 400 hours and you mastered the entire language? You mean like elementary level? I‘m studying in Japan and every foreign student I've seen at least passed JLPT-2. None of them speaks and writes like a native.
