Everything PPP-Raw releases is from laserdisc source. At the time of ripping, no DVD, Bluray, or official digital souce is known to exist (or is of poor quality).
This was captured using a Domesday Duplicator. You can read all about the Domeday Duplicator project at https://www.domesday86.com/?page_id=978.
Its the story of the life of a fairly normal family growing up in Japan before and during World War II. As you can well imagine, it doesn’t end entirely well, but it isn’t a completely bleak ending either. Its very emotional, and very well done. I find it somewhat shocking it was never reissued, and nobody ever picked up the rights.
There’s a long history behind the subtitling, which I will not re-type here. If you care, I will refer you to the old release notes file included with the torrent. The short version is that the most recent script revision is my own, and I have included it in a separate folder, along with the ancient and unused Lupin Gang Anime conversions (by a more unbearable 1999 version of myself). Do with them as you wish. They might line up okay-ish as-is, timing wise, but they were timed against my old analog rip, so the first half might be off, and the second half might be even more off.
The disc not have chapter markings.
Unfiltered high bitrate DVD conversion included for archival purposes.
