Release number 3.5 This is a custom version of my most favourite anime of all time. I first saw it back in the 90s when newly released Manga video (VHS days) were playing on channel 4 (terrestrial aerial TV days) here where I live in the UK. I was young, but was allowed to video it when it was playing on TV at around 2am on Channel 4s ‘Late Licence’ segment, and it has been my all time favourite anime ever since. It’s just a shame that they never made any more, because considering the 1000ish years that the 3 characters had to knock off of their prison sentences combined, they certainly could have made a shitload more out of it. Anyway: I do have several rips and encodes of varying qualities and audio tracks that i’ve downloaded over the years from various groups/individuals/sources, aswell as a few versions of DVDs of it that I have purchased over the years. I still even have my old VHS tapes of it too.lol This release contains the UK Rory McFarlane DUB (in english) ONLY. No other audio tracks are included in any of these files whatsoever. Obviously, I do have all of the varying audio tracks that are available for this show, but being born and raised in the UK, it is this McFarlane UK DUB that I watched when I was a kid. It’s the first version of it that I ever saw, and it’s what I grew up with back when you could catch it on TV one time only, or be lucky enough to go to Forbidden Planet in London and beg my dad to buy me the ‘Cyberpunk Collection’ VHS tapes. This is back when most of the world barely even had dial-up internet. Hell, when I first saw this on TV back then, if you even had a computer at home, u were considered extremely lucky, bordering on semi-rich. The internet (pretty much), didn’t really exist to most people back then. Nobody had home PCs back then. I am very, very aware that this DUB is not to everyone’s tastes. I fully understand this. I do have versions that contain Japanese, English with the synth soundtrack, commentary tracks, and the McFarlane DUB. They are all great versions, but, this DUB is the one I loved as a kid, and it’s my favourite. NOTE: In File 2-Psychic Trooper, my original VHS tape that I used to extract the UK DUB, did have a small audio discrepancy on the actual tape, which there was nothing I can do about. As we all know, when VHS tapes get old and have been watched loads of times, they start to break down. And by the time home PCs became common-place many years later, with powerful processors and Upscaling softwares etc, the tape had broken down a little, and a small audio issue in File 2 VHS tape had appeared. Because of this, the last 40% or so of File 2 does become ever so slightly de-synced toward the end of the episode. It is very negligible though and not even noticeable unless u specifically stop to look for it. This was unavoidable, and I retimed things as best as I could with what I had (no way to just redownload a corrupted VHS tape.lol). It is highly likely that you will not even notice it. Also, please don’t be alarmed if you notice that the 3 metal clanging sounds at the start of each episode (when the middle O in Oedo text slams together) seem out of sync. This is intentionally required in order for the rest of the audio to sync up throughout each episode. I do hope that u guys enjoy this. Massive massive thank you to [mottoj] for the original release and hard work, and having the best version out there to date (and most likely forever). As i’ve said, this is my own personal combo copy that I use just for my own viewing once in a while, so i’ve obviously tailored it to my own tastes and requirements. Apologies if some of you may not like what i’ve done. Video: 768x576, 4:3, H264 23.976fps [mottoj] Audio: English UK Rory McFarlane DUB, AC3 Stereo, 48Hz, 384kbps (VHS rip, digitally cleaned) ALERT: WHEN ADDING TO TORRENT CLIENT, DO NOT FORGET TO UNTICK THE VERSION YOU DON’T WANT, AND LEAVE TICKED THE VERSION THAT YOU DO WANT, TO AVOID NEEDLESSLY DOWNLOADING BOTH. As always, thank you to [mottoj] for the excellently clear release that the video for this is derived from, and of course, thank you to Manga Video for creating this amazing (albeit, unfortunately short lived) show all those years ago. P.S. Please no hate from purists out there. I’m aware that this DUB is universally the most disliked one out there, but, this manga, back when I was around 7 years old, is what got me into anime. This, is where it all started for me. It is a part of my childhood, a part of me, and the reason I got into anime over 30 years ago (with Dominion Tank Police coming a close second). Sorry if anyone feels that this is butchering, but after 30 years, I do get to messing around with trying to create better/different versions of my all time favourites. Enjoy. P.P.S. Apologies to those of you who began to leech the 1080p AI upscaled version. Am new to Nyaa and forgot that no upscales are allowed.

Apologies to those of you who began to leech the 1080p AI upscaled version. Am new to Nyaa and forgot that no upscales are allowed, so had to reupload this 576p version sharpish as soon as I was admin reminded of what i'd done. apologies for that guys, cus the Gigapixel AI 1080p upscale of this was amazingly good. Sorry :(

I’m looking forward to when the Blu-ray comes by Anime Limited

Wow. I didn't even know about that, or think that after all these years that a new release would ever occur. Just checked up on it and you are absolutely right. Thanks for letting me know about that. Anime Limited= "Shut up an take my money here we come"

Am shortly about to upload this UK McFarlane based OST CD RIP in FLAC for any of those that may be interested, aswell as Dominion Tank Police+New Dominion Tank Police double release FLAC OSTs aswell.
Assuming the audio was made for PAL, it would be better to speed up the video to 25fps rather than pitch down the audio.

Ah, ok. Im an amateur and not 100% on some things. I can put audio and video together, insert/cut silence at the beginning of the file to bring the audio forward/push it back, but have never speeded up an fps of a video before. Woulden't that mean that to do that, id have to re-encode the video to get it to 25fps, thereby possibly losing quality as I do so? If u think its a good idea and may make it more lined up then I can give it a try? Apparently a bluray release from Anime Limited is going to happen at some stage which will include the McFarlane DUB so i'm not super fussed now that I know that. Didn't find that out until after I uploaded this and user: H94 informed me of the planned bluray release. Audio was sourced from PAL VHS tapes yes and seems pretty sweet throughout episodes 1 and 3. Its just the audio in episode 2 becomes slightly de-synced part way through due to a glitch on the VHS tape it was ripped from. Unless you've noticed any other de-syncs anywhere? The video is from the [mottoj] release here on Nyaa, which is R5 European PAL DVD, and the audio was taken from PAL VHS tapes. Would that mean that they're fps counts are the same do you think? (big difference in media from VHS days to DVD days I guess) I'm really not sure to be honest. Do you know of a way to ascertain the equivalent fps of an audio file (so as the raw VHS rip audio is, before it is muxed in etc? And thanku for the chatter. Im lightly knowledgeable about such things so any pointers are always welcome.
"Woulden’t that mean that to do that, id have to re-encode the video to get it to 25fps, thereby possibly losing quality as I do so?" No. "Do you know of a way to ascertain the equivalent fps of an audio file (so as the raw VHS rip audio is, before it is muxed in etc?" Audio doesn't have an fps, the question is what is the video fps that was mated to the audio. If you take audio meant for 25fps and marry it with 24fps video with the same frame count, it will slowly drift out of sync due to the 4% speed difference. So I'm a little confused...if you did NOT pitch down the audio, then it shouldn't be in sync at the end (unless your VHS player converted to NTSC?)

Ah geez, i'm really not sure. I didn't do anything to the audio as it was ripped. File 2 is fine up until around three quarters of the way through The only reason it does go out of sync at all for the last portion of the episode is because of a small blip in the VHS audio, which I believe got recorded/seen by the recorder as a skip, rather than it just carrying on straight as it should, and giving me an audible blip, it just skipped a quarter or half of a second maybe (analogue translating to digital). I'm really not sure to be honest. I'm currently sourcing an alternative for the McFarlane DUB at present, so once I have that I may well go ahead and do another from scratch. Thanks for the help and the info, its much appreciated. If and when i've got a from scratch done, ill update this thread with a comment linking to it. This was just a noobs attempt. Many thanks again. Always good to learn more, because I definitely need to :-) --"Audio doesn’t have an fps, the question is what is the video fps that was mated to the audio. I've seen and made that mistake before, and this is certainly not that. Think it's just the blip in the original analogue to digital process.
Ok. The other possibility is that they did a NTSC->PAL conversion *without* speedup. That's not the normal way, at least not for movies, but anime companies may have done things differently. In that case, the UK dub audio would sync up with the original Japanese video without any pitch shift required.

Ah OK. Ill bear that in mind. I've now got a new source for the McFarlane DUB, so once I decide what video source i'm going to use then i'll look into converting PAL-NTSC (or vice versa) myself to make sure I don't potentially fall foul of any 4% speed difference issues. I'm finally back to working full time again tomorrow here in the UK so i'll get to it when I have time. Thanks again for all the pointers and info. Always good to know more rather than unwittingly doing something wrong (and not even being aware that i'm doing it). As I say, if and when I get what i'd like to call a FINAL copy made then i'll post it up and update this thread with the link. Thanks again EICid. Peace bro.

That brings back some memories. Many thanks.

You're most welcome. The voice actors, language and hardcore ost for this are the best way to watch it I think.
are you gonna upload the anime limited re-release version? that version is a remaster, which luckily also includes all three tracks. JP track, Eng track with original music and Eng track with the Rory McFarlane Music.. I really want to experience every version, so I wish you could upload that one

That's a very good question. I am based in the UK, and according to amazon.co.uk, it releases on blu-ray on Jan 18th 2021. I have it pre-ordered, and will be releasing it on Nyaa once i've got hold of it (assuming no one else beats me to it). Early January I am in the process of moving house, but once I get the time, if no-one else has already done it, then rest assured that I definitely will be. Hope this satisfies in the meantime while we wait.
