## Important: 5.1 track got corrupted after min. 26, fixed in v2 : https://nyaa.si/view/1251394 > Recommended player for sdr monitors: mpv > Recommended player for hdr monitors: mpc + madvr I think this release really suits : - those with low systems and/or (low resolution) sdr monitors. They can try to fake hdr thanks to the hdr informartions inside. Players like mpv do it automatically, but also mpc+madvr with some tweaking. I think fake hdr, even tho its nowhere near real hdr on super monitor/tvs, its still visually appealing. This movie actually has quite good hdr, some shots are very impressive. - those with 4k hdr monitors (or normal monitors), bothered by the mega-sharp of the 4k BR. - those who want the benefits of the 4k bluray with less disadvantages. From what i saw the bluray was pretty soft and sometimes the bitrate was really suspicious, i **guess** this 4k bluray have held way more details and dynamic grain thanks to bigger filesize and space efficiency of 4k hevc. --- **_Video_**: 4k BD bicubic resized to 1080p x265 4:4:4 **_Audio_**: *Japanese* - 5.1 Opus 384 Kbps _ / _ *Japanese* - 2.0 Opus 192 Kbps **_Subs_**: *English* - *Japanese* - *Chinese* *** Here some screens for comparison, also remember that all the washed out/extremely lit zones lost the hdr information during screenshot Source (4K BR) | Encode | (BR) --- | --- | --- [![raw.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/sMCWjNWw/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-2160p-Blu-Ray-mkv-snapshot-00-02-55-534.jpg)](https://i.postimg.cc/rM9ZqM6m/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-2160p-Blu-Ray-mkv-snapshot-00-02-55-534.jpg "CLICK FOR ZOOM") | [![encode.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/0Mdnfb4m/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE21h-mkv-snapshot-00-02-55-517.jpg)](https://i.postimg.cc/kJ5PFFVd/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE21h-mkv-snapshot-00-02-55-517.jpg "CLICK FOR ZOOM") | [![encode.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/NK8H5k7Y/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-1080p-Blu-Ray-REMUX-AVC-DTS-HD-MA-5-1-FGT-mkv-snapshot-00-02-55-534.jpg)](https://i.postimg.cc/JR46nvmQ/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-1080p-Blu-Ray-REMUX-AVC-DTS-HD-MA-5-1-FGT-mkv-snapshot-00-02-55-534.jpg "CLICK FOR ZOOM") [![raw.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/H8xLsQWY/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-2160p-Blu-Ray-mkv-snapshot-00-02-28-111.jpg)](https://i.postimg.cc/xfhG0p5t/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-2160p-Blu-Ray-mkv-snapshot-00-02-28-111.jpg "CLICK FOR ZOOM") | [![encode.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/VS4PVL2y/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE21h-mkv-snapshot-00-02-28-120.jpg)](https://i.postimg.cc/Ng5KJT2R/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE21h-mkv-snapshot-00-02-28-120.jpg "CLICK FOR ZOOM") | [![encode.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/RqsFpbGN/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-1080p-Blu-Ray-mkv-snapshot-00-02-28-153.jpg)](https://i.postimg.cc/51QqP19G/Weathering-with-You-2019-JAPANESE-1080p-Blu-Ray-mkv-snapshot-00-02-28-153.jpg "CLICK FOR ZOOM")

>They can try to fake hdr thanks to the hdr informartions inside the HDR is already fake though lol
> i guess this 4k bluray have held way more details and dynamic grain thanks to bigger filesize and space efficiency of 4k hevc both the uhd and fhd are single disc so asides from being h264, would the fhd disc not also have less bitrate starving than the uhd disc? also according to the 4k bluray source, both the 4k and hdr/color information appears to be a gimmick the 4k is some upscale of the 1080p version honestly shouldnt have bothered with the downscale also the hdr10/yuv444 is fake and wrong

> the HDR is already fake though lol drawings are fake mehh @wwwwwwww i dont understand what you are trying to say, the fhd disc clearly has less bitrate and its also h264 according to 4k source? what do you mean? the 4k is a marketing gimmick here, but i also explained my thoughts on using it, i dont understand where you got that hdr is a gimmick tho. if you read description you will see why i bothered with downscale also hdr and 444 is not fake/wrong (and you dont even care to explain why)
the HDR is faked. the master is SDR. the 4k is an upscale. the master is 1080p. hope this clears things up!

the hdr is not faked, it got treated most likely in the tokyo laboratories that did DCP mastering, all intermediated by the director. like basic procedure of every 4k hdr disc, hdr is postprocessing, they dont shoot with it yes its an upscale from the master , but better encoded than 1080p br, thats why downscaling it makes sense . this is all said in the description, maybe i wasnt clear enough

besides all of this, i invite people to download this and see what they prefer between 4k hdr br, this 4k hdr resized, 1080p br. btw you dont need any particular equipment like i said in my first point
I don't think you can compare the HDR file that has been tone-mapped to SDR through mpv or madvr with the 1080p source since the tone-mapping destroys the detail at high brigtnesses as seen in your second set of screenshots.

i didnt tonemap, i just took screenshots of hdr passthrough. windows cant handle hdr screens files, there is currently no way of making a screenshot that handle hdr information (with some very small exceptions). if you let mpv handle hdr informations you wont see stuff like this, it will automatically tonemap based on your monitor. i did those screenshots for people that want to see which areas get affected by hdr but more importantly for comparing grain/detail retention and sharpening
>the hdr is not faked, it got treated most likely in the tokyo laboratories that did DCP mastering, all intermediated by the director. like basic procedure of every 4k hdr disc, hdr is postprocessing, they dont shoot with it there's anime created with HDR in mind (only CGI stuff on netflix as far as i know). i would consider that real HDR. this anime wasn't created with it in mind and was just added after the fact for marketing purposes to fool people like you into buying the 4k version since HDR is the cool new thing and SDR is lame. >yes its an upscale from the master , but better encoded than 1080p br, thats why downscaling it makes sense . this is all said in the description, maybe i wasnt clear enough there's no extra detail, and it doesn't have sufficient bitrate for unknown reasons (there's still about 14gb of the disc that's unused in the 4k release).
I don’t understand. This is 1080p or 4k?

@Kwoey this is 1080p as the title says. its a bicubic resize from the 4k bluray, so basically its less sharpened than the 4k br and yet not as soft as the bluray. you can watch the screens if you have doubts @herkz im not in shinkai's head so idk if he considered hdr when he started working on the film, i believe so since this time he got involved with tokyo laboratories, i can only guess he really cared producing a good final product. indeed only cgi can work perfectly with hdr, but to say that other hdr movies are fake, well... anyway industry is not ready for incredible 4k cgi hdr, even ready player one with mindblowing cgi is not 4k and does not feature hdr like sol levante did. anyway for now the products we have are still totally worth trying, and this is the future of how we will watch films, not 1080p blurays anymore how can you say there is no extra detail cmon. btw the bitrate is on par with your name, excepts h265 got much much better in these 3 years, so its better for sure. really now can we stop arguing over the same things? this is not a discussion forum anyway, if you really care download the file and watch which version you prefer and stick with it
Hey, we found a promising release. Will this be the version we download ?... let's see, he started from an oversharpened 4k version of a 1080 BR master, then downscaled it back obtaining some medium-sharpened version of the BR ... and the search continue!

User
@Yogurt If you really care about sharpening maybe you should stick to 1080p bluray (when there will be a good one), this release aim to find a balance between the 2 blurays like i said in the points, and its nothing out of this world since its pretty common to resize upscaled stuff. if for any reasons you dont care at all about hdr, maybe this isnt for you i agree
@opol can you tell me what preset and crf did you use?

User
its a crf 14 preset slow
