Thanks! Can't wait for the rest of the BDs to come out.
Are .mkv files preferable to all other file types? I've noticed almost all of my video files that I download from here are .mkv files, so they have to be. My question is why. I'm new to this and am only asking to sate my curiosity, not to offend.
> I’ve noticed almost all of my video files that I download from here are .mkv files? Because there is really no other reason to use another container, since everyone nowadays has at least one machine capable of its playback, and it is well suited to our needs now more than every other [container](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_container_formats).
@nabiru3: So, basically, .mkv is the .mp3 when it comes to video formats. As in, most everything recognizes and can play it. I see. Okay. Thank you for explaining. I appreciate it.
@Z6890 mp3 is actually a pretty shitty format for audio. There are much better ones. mp3 is more comparable to mp4 for its video counterpart. Everything is .mkv because its a higher quality container than all others, as simple as that.
@z6890 .mkv is just the container, it holds different formats of audio, video and also subtitles fonts etc. While mkv's themselves work on most devices, and work with a ton of formats. That doesn't mean all formats within the mkv will work with all devices. E.g you can have a x265 10bit file and opus audio inside of a mkv which isn't going to work on older or slow devices. But you can also have a x264 8bit file with aac audio which will work on a ton of devices. People use mkv because it works with a ton of formats, and supports the formats well basically.
@Z6890 you can't include embedded subtitles in an mp4 and mp4s also don't support many audio formats. AVIs then again are even worse and are only good for containing XviDs, which is an outdated codec. MKV container does everything those can do and far more.
Thanks guys. I didn't know any of this and I appreciate it. Now I understand why you prefer .mkv files. They are versatile and support many video/audio codecs. Thank you again.
