We use CRF 18, a high-quality bitrate setting that is a standard recommendation on Doom9 (the expert encoding forum). Rest assured that this video will look perfectly fine even when watched closely on a large screen. CRF 18 avoids pointlessly bloating bitrate for virtually no gain, so you get a great balance of quality and size.
[Audio quality]
This encode uses lossy Qaac encoding at Q127 (max quality) for audio that’s virtually transparent (sounding the same as the original source) at a small filesize. If you are in the 2% of watchers concerned about AAC artifacts, look at our larger release: https://nyaa.si/view/1225854

i allways wondered but why is there never a 5.1 japanese audio only 2.0 even when the english audio is in 5.1

same here but sadly it’s only for English like that

I noticed that loud noises sounds clipped, it is because the compression or because the way it was mastered?
EDIT: Comparing VCB with FLAC audio and this release side-by-side, there is no difference in the quality. Loud noises sounds really bad.

@letrix you should take a look at my own FLAC release that is where the audio came from more or less. don’t use another release that is not mine which is n a sense not comparable.

I compared both of your releases and I still can’t hear any difference at least on my PC, could be because of my hardware. Still, loud noises feels clipped and probably it’s because the sound design of the anime.

the first episode has that sound anyways that is intended I think so that is not a fault that is just how they wanted to make it.
