1440x1080 for 1979-1980 TV show...

@Ryuuneko Film doesn't have resolution. Depending on the sharpness of the glass, quality of film stock, and preservation many of these older series can go much higher. Ironically, a series from the 70s can often be restored to a higher quality than many from the early 2000s which were digitally animated at or near the resolution at which they aired. Current digital restoration uses roughly 0.1 MP per square mm of film. Most animation was done on 16mm (7.5mm x 10.3mm) film so it takes 7.7 MP per frame. 4:3 4K (2880x2160) is only 6.2 MP. However, it wasn't uncommon to use cheap film stock and to often just throw it in a store room when done converting to video for its original run. And so the max resolution is not usually the best resolution since much of the extra detail is a byproduct of the film stock and not the original animation. Right now, we are only getting 4K releases of bigger budget animated films which were likely done on 35mm film and tend to have been preserved better. But, if we are lucky we will see more OVA and TV series going forward.

@Shawn Not at the moment but I am planning to do most of the Tomino Gundam series so I will consider Dunbine. @vanquisher Yes, I am actually starting it next week. Don't expect it fast because I don't have a dedicated encoding server. I run them in batches during downtime on my media server so 96 episodes will take a while.
