I love how they advertised this for hardcore fans and used the "Season" format than Arc, Saga or Volumes. Not to mention the botched job they did with the picture quality.
It's basically the Season Sets in 4:3 with some tweaks and sold in "limited" quantities of 6k + 750.
It was just 6k. That was their maximum.
@aptop6 S1D4, streams 37-38; S2D4 stream 39; S4D4 stream 40; S8D4 streams 39-40. That's all of the OPs and EDs.
They only made 6k. They sold about 4500 in the US before the deadline. Then they changed the counter on their website to 0/6000 remaining (people who were watching saw the jump). That left them with 1500 copies unsold. They gave 750 to MangaUK out of that 1500, and the people in the UK who bought it were wondering why their numbers were in the 4000s and 5000s.
Well, FUNimation now owns Manga UK so they're [Manga UK] only in name now.
Anyway, if anyone is really looking into buying this release, just buy via FUNimation U.K.'s website, but yeah, you got to have a family member, friend you trust or a middleman to send it to you.
https://dbz30.funimation.com/
You'd think with only "750" it would have sold out ages ago, but I suppose U.K. fans are a bit smarter not to spend their money on junk.
The population of the UK is about 20% of the US population, and plenty of people outside the US used VPNs and proxy shipping to order it via the initial US offering, thinking that would be the only offering. And the US offering still didn't sell out, despite so many non-attentive people claiming otherwise.
I tracked the US countdown of the 30th and I'd say it did sell out, but FUNimation could have made it look as such. Kind of a sketchy company.
It's a shame that Discotek doesn't own the license of Dragon Ball in the U.S.
I watched it jump from around 4500 to 6000 when the deadline hit. It wasn't super sketchy; after they hit their minimum of 3000, they changed the counter from "funding progress" (x sold /3000) to "units remaining" (x remaining /6000) to indicate that they had reached their goal. So when the deadline arrived, they changed it to 0/6000 to indicate that they were not selling any more.

And I've seen people who ordered the UK version asking why their number was 4634 or whatever when it was supposed to be limited to 750.
**Edit**: found an image closer to the deadline (May 5). At that time there were 1822 remaining, with only 4 days to go. It was closer to 1500 when the deadline hit.
Most people who frequent this website are collectors. We want everything so we can be informed on the differences between releases. That said, a bunch of people downloaded a super shitty encode of this set and I have no idea why anyone would want that. It's not an accurate archival copy.
Downloading now. Will seed 2.0 Ratio but afterwards will need to stop as i am only downloading 4 discs at a time. All discs will get 2.0 Seeds. I will then Makemkv them with both dts and aac/ac3 so it can play on most devices. If people want i might upload them by Season so less to download at once. All footage will be raw mkv for people to collect this.
@ 420666969
That's good to know. I checked eBay yesterday and these sets were only selling for around $300 and a bunch others for $500. Scalpers imagined this crap would be valuable. lol
Looking at completed listings right now. I see sets sold for $899, $800, $700, $675, $625, $600, and on down. Lowest I see is $440 for the whole set, though some sell prices aren't disclosed (if it says "best offer accepted"). Someone paid $330 just for the disc box, and another paid $250 just for the figure. Also yet another person paid $200 for the figure alone. Highest sell price I see for the book is $135.
i don't even have enough space on my HDDs for this *clicks on download* but i'm just gonna delete dome pron instead, after all i know my priorities lol
thx for sharing!
Thought I should mention this for anyone looking to download these considering how big they are. This Bluray release has had an extremely negative response to put it lightly. Funimations "remaster" has been over-saturated, has a fairly extreme crop on all sides of the video, and to top it all off the encode was initially denoised then after fan backlash funimation decided to add artifical grain to the already de-noised video. Meaning the filesize is effectively bloated for nothing because all the initial detail was already removed by the first denoise filter. Frankly this boxset is garbage and I'd recommend the dragon box found here https://nyaa.si/view/1114198. I want to make clear I mean no ill-will towards the uploader and appreciate the upload. Just thought I'd make it clear for anyone looking to download.

@surume
CERTIFICATE folder is only necessary for playback on some hardware, like really strict ones. You should use a tool (e.g. ImgBurn, no longer updated but not outdated standard-wise) that generates missing data for you when burning ISO or Blu-ray. In a Blu-ray disc, many folders/files are useless/redundant; they just "have to be there" (either to conform to Blu-ray structure, or as backup in case of physical disc damage, which never happens on the Internet) adding no real value.
Some uploaders strip these redundancies to optimize download size. If you intend to burn physical discs you may need to generate them first.
@iKaos big fan, I love your multi-audio work but I can't stand that it isn't the blu-rays or at least this. i know some people hate these things but I just really want a mix of this with your audio
@VasID - The Certificate folders are all where they are supposed to be in this torrent. They just don't show in the folder structure displayed by Nyaa because there is nothing in them except for the also-empty Backup folders.
@Tesseract Not all episodes are over-cropped. Some episodes actually have more picture than their Dragon Box counterparts. It probably depended on how much damage each episode had on the edges of the film.
@Tesseract
You have no ill will but yet you typed a one sided argument trying to sway people away from this release and run to the Dragon Box. Didnt mention how the Dragon Box itself has incorrect colors, bad 480p resolution and also has reduced grain removal. So there you go no release is perfect. Also the average viewer cant determine whats fake grain,real grain nor cares. Only one who cares are encoding snob communities. Im watching episode s01e04 remux right now and the picture looks great. You probably havent watched yourself. Just took some information from twitter or other people and watched a compressed youtube video. Its Dragon ball Z in 4:3 uncut in High Def. In my opinion its better than Dragon Box. I have season 1 remux from a private tracker. I will be downloading the rest here so thanks alot uploader I appreciate it.
@Beatrixly - I think Tesseract was just trying to let people know what they are getting into before they dedicate 1.5 TB of disc space to this. I don't think they are selling anything. The early arcs look pretty good, if you can ignore things like oversharpened lines, skittish clouds, and wobbly shading. The latter two are caused by the artificial grain (it doesn't happen with real grain), and it also causes a weird waxy-looking effect on auras and focus transitions. The artificial grain is also responsible for the ridiculously bloated file size that makes further compression (via encoding) extremely difficult.
The Cell arc has the worst problems. The film-scanning job was apparently rushed and not quality-checked, so frames are often out of focus and blurry, and the colors are so washed out that lines practically disappear (along with things like the dots on Krillin's forehead) and so brightened that it's a bit painful to watch. The Dragon Box definitely has its own issues, though, and I think it's fair to say this is a toss-up for the average viewer overall. For people who pay attention to detail (not just encoding snobs, but also artists, animation nerds, and any kind of videophile) the Dragon Box wins. And it takes up a lot less space. The fact that a 2019 Blu-ray release runs such a close race with a problematic DVD release is kinda ridiculous, which is why it has people so angry.
@Beatrixly I want to make clear I don't have ill-will towards the uploader but I do have ill-will towards funimation. You know a bluray is pretty bad when I find a DVD release to be better now imagine if you payed $350 for this rather than got it for free. It's absurd funimation considers this encode passable in the slightest It's a very expensive slap in the face to anyone who bought it. Of course I didn't buy it I'd get more entertainment burning $350 than I would from purchasing a funimation product. To reiterate I have no ill-will towards the uploader. I appreciate anyone that shares something unique as it contributes to free culture.
I also have watched this and also have the remuxes. I found it unwatchable due to the wobbly shading and skittish clouds @420666969 mentioned it's really just a matter of what someone finds watchable. Personally I feel like I'm about to have a seizure with the lines constantly juddering and the colors being so bright it feels like my eyes are bleeding, but, some people find this watchable and don't notice/care about things like that. So to each their own was just giving a word of caution about this bluray release as it has a lot of animosity for a reason and 1.5TB is a lot of space to dedicate to rips that don't look much better than a DVD. The most it has going for it is that it's HD and even then that's negated by funimations shitty denoise job. All releases have their cons but the Dragon box has far less severe problems than this bluray.
Thanks for the upload. I refused to download the remux and was just waiting for this.
I actually missed the deadline to buy this, but then I read about the release and saw it was just the seaon sets in 4:3. They really should have just used the raw footage and framed it properly. Even without color correction that would have been better. I am the type of person to avoid watching this due to the way that the background always looks like water paint with as much detail as possible removed, and so much detail in even the characters are missing. All it has going for it is 1080p, and maybe the colors. But I am downloading this for mainly the audio and maybe the subtitles. I need the audio very much. Also I hope there are some extras.
Some people dont care about the loss of all the detail. Im sure those people will enjoy this release since it is 1080p. But maybe those people would also like it in 16:9 in which maybe the season sets would be better for them since 420666969 said something about the cell arc not being quality checked and having blurry frames and color problems in this release. Also the fake grain isn`t in the season sets.
@mrbean if you're downloading for the Japanese audio I'd advise against it. It's a single channel mono track and sounds horribly muddled. The broadcast audio included in the dragon box torrent (https://nyaa.si/view/1114198) is much better and the subs also appear to be the same subs that the dragon box torrent uses. English audio sounds fine though if that's what you're after.
For 'English' audio, better to go with iKaos' release which is pretty much the definitive one. I'm just waiting for all of it to be released and then download the entire batch.
@mrbean - The only new extras are the menus, creditless OPs/EDs, and "Celebrities Talk: 30 Years of Dragon Ball Z". The others are all recycled from the season BDs.
@Tesseract, thanks for letting me know that the english subs look like they are the same as the dragon box. I was wondering about that. And no I don't want the Japanese audio. Just the English audio. I was trying to get that from the Season sets, but smfan stopped uploading them after Season 2.
@Impakt, if the following ikaos torrent example is what you are talking about https://nyaa.si/view/1194180 then I already have the R1 Dragon Box and I have the singles DVD's too. But I would think that the Blu-ray audio from the Seasons Sets and the 30th anniversary edition would be better quality that the Dragon Box and Orange Brick audio that iKaos used. Am I wrong? Or are you only talking about the 2000 DVD Singles English track that has all the NEP's from TV/VHS added to them?
@420666969, Thanks for letting me know which extras are new, that saves me a lot of time. “Celebrities Talk: 30 Years of DBZ” is all I was hoping for, so I'm happy with that.
''For people who pay attention to detail (not just encoding snobs, but also artists, animation nerds, and any kind of videophile) the Dragon Box wins''
@420666969
I like detail too. Thats why I know how bad dvds looks on 4KTV and 1080. I respect the detail soo much I dont want my picture stretched,washed out and blurry. The Dragon Box only looks good on tablets and phones. This new DBZ Blu-Ray is the standard. Its not perfect but its an improvement from the last Blu-Ray which was 16:9. This alone should be celebrated full stop.
@Tesseract
Im not buying it. You knew very well what you were getting yourself into. They had a 30th anniversary trailer months ago so if you didnt like the quality then. Then you wouldn't like it now. So why come here in the first place? You basically came here to say that this release is garbage. Yeah thats toxic indeed. No I dont believe you have watched the bluray. I believe you read twitter and follow youtube personalities and take their opinion as gospel. Then you came here to spread their talking points. And leave out all the flaws of the Dragon Box inconveniently. You was wrong about the extreme cropping and now you find it unwatchable due to the wobbly shading and skittish clouds right after @420666969 mentions it in his comment. Do you have any opinion of your own? You clearly are a bad faith actor.
(Part 1/2)
@Beatrixly I have watched the remuxes they were tagged by Jdcox215 and I got them on AT that's as much proof as I'll provide. I wasn't following any youtube personalities I'm not a huge dragon ball fan by any means and was unaware of the hate surrounding this bluray up until I started digging into it after seeing this torrent. After making my own comparisons this bluray has severe problems that make dedicating an additional 1TB of storage to it over the dragon box nonsensical. To be 100% clear I have downloaded this and archived it mainly because I'm a massive data hoarder, but, for normal people this is a lot of storage to use up for a rip that doesn't look much better than a DVD. It does look more crisp but that's pointless when the image is less detailed, which again, is caused by the denoising.
(Part 2/2)
I have uploaded and encoded denoised rips and I've learning in doing that, that denoising is very source dependent. Something like dragon ball with a lot of fast moving action scenes shouldn't be denoised it's just bad encoding plain and simple. Fast moving video is very detail rich and the problem with denoising is it removes details. In my experience denoising low detail frames such as still ones produces acceptable results and is fine for shows without much action. I've also found it's fine for extremely fucked or mangled sources because the video is already so low detail that denoising only results in marginal detail loss and in most cases ends up fixing artifacts (depending on the quality of the denoise filter used). Funimations source ticks none of these boxes it wasn't low detail nor was it a bad source (minus the damaged film on the edges). They had no reason to denoise it. The most egregious part though is the addition of artificial grain. It's inexcusable it's not even bad encoding it's just pure stupidity. It introduces edge judder and doesn't gain back any of the detail lost from the denoise and to top it all off it bloats the file size for nothing. Only an idiot would think to add artificial grain to a source and it's inexcusable that funimation even considered this as an option and demonstrates they obviously didn't care all that much with the final product and only really cared about pushing this overpriced garbage onto fans.
P.S. I noticed the edge judder initially I just didn't feel the need to mention it because it's not a massive problem but it'll definitely annoy some far more than others. I was just being hyperbolic in my comments because it's more fun than being serious. The dragon box is flawed I don't deny that it's just less so than these blurays. If you prefer these over it that's fine, at the end of the day you're the one watching so choose whichever you prefer.
@Beatrixly everything Tesseract is saying is correct, there are fundamental problems with this release that any fan that truly cares about preservation of the detail and art of the show should steer clear of it. The fact of the matter is the 480p Dragon Box has more detail and true grain and preserves the original artistic intent of the animators. Whether or not it looks good on an HD or 4K TV or monitor is largely due to the built-in upscaler on whatever device you would normally use. Personally I can watch a Dragon Box rip on my 65" TV and it looks perfectly fine. Clarity and sharpness of an image should not be confused with what is possible if this were a true HD restoration. Obviously the Dragon Box has color issues but those are fixable, unlike most of the issues with the 30A.
@IKaos You open up your statement with no a true scotsman fallacy about how any fan that truly cares about preservation of the detail art of the show should steer clear of it. And then it gets worse because you dont even follow this logic yourself. I just clicked on your page. Your an uploader of Dragon ball Z Multi-Audio. You cannot say in the same breath that you care about preservation of the detail and art of the show if you added dubs to your Dragon Ball Z. What happen to '''preserves the original artistic intent of the animators''? You are logically inconsistent. Heres the real truth no one cares about intent. Its the actions we look at and the level of impact it has on an individual and groups. This is why people like different dubs,different scores like Bruce Falconer or no filler like DBZ Kai. Its does not bother them of true intent its about the experience. Even you to a degree of any honestly should understand this. Secondly this is an HD restoration whether you dislike it or not. Its not the same transfer from the last Blu-Ray. But you said you want a''True HD restoration'' which is a complete vacuous statement that means nothing to anyone. I can go on different sites and ask people on what a True HD restoration means to them and their all have different opinions. Your fundamental problems are not''fundamental'' enough for everyone. They wouldn't know grain from noise and even if they did know (like me) that doesnt mean they ought to care and cant enjoy this release. SD resolutions are the real fundamental problem. It was bad back in the day and its still bad now. Everyone agrees down to the average viewership. Why are you pivoting to upscalers and dvd rips? can you agree 480p is bad? This is what im talking about for someone who says they are about detail you cant win the higher resolution argument. HD by definition means more detail shown on big screens.
Thanks again uploader im not done yet but im getting there and ill seed back.
iKaos said: Dragon Box has more detail and true grain and preserves the original artistic intent of the animators.
Thank you, “the original artistic intent of the animators” is exactly what it is. I couldn’t think of those exact words, but it sums it up perfectly. I want to experience what I was originally intended to experience when watching DBZ, not what is essentially just a repainted version where the background just looks like blochy water paint and has had so much detail and texture removed from even the charcters. I don’t understand why anyone would want 1080p resolution of blochy water paint over the "original artistic intent of the animators", and fake grain now on top of it.
I’m more just upset that so many people are buying these cheaply produced 1080p releases from funimation since it gives funimation the feedback they need to create more garbage and still make money. The problem with that is there will never be a good 1080p release from funimation unless Toei remasters it themselves. And if they do, hopefully Toei doesn’t use too much DNR in the Blu-ray, or at least offer a Web-DL version with the original grain as they did with the 1080p movies.
@Beatrixly You're not reading what I wrote. I didn't say "any true fan of the show" should stay away from this release. I'm not gate-keeping, you can be the biggest fan of DBZ in the world and like the way this transfer has been done - totally fine with me. What I said was a fan who "cares about preservation of detail" should not be happy with the transfer. There's nothing to debate about that statement because this remaster literally gets rid of detail in order to make the show appear "more HD", and makes it worse by adding in the fake grain to replace the grain that they themselves got rid of in the first place. If you yourself are happy with the product, than that's great, it's here, take it and be happy with it. But it's not how the show is supposed to look is all that I'm saying, and FUNi has actually shown that they are capable of a better, more accurate HD preservation with the Level sets, but instead chose to go in this direction.
I'm not really sure why you brought my releases into your argument. I do a simple encode of the Dragon Box without altering the image in any way, and each dub track is kept in its original format. I bring as many dubs together as possible so people can enjoy the series with the audio track of their choosing. I've got nothing against the uploader for putting this up for anyone who wants it, and If people don't want Dragon Box as a source, then obviously my encodes aren't for them, and that's fine with me too. Obviously 480p is "bad" because it's older, but that doesn't mean we should blindly accept whatever 1080p transfer FUNi decides to put out, especially when it destroys the artistic integrity of the visual nature of the show. Just because there is more resolution does NOT mean there is more inherent detail in the image.
tl;dr My intent is only to educate. You shouldn't feel "bad" for liking or downloading this release, but you should at least be aware of its visual shortcomings, which is my only intention. Don't settle for something just because it's called HD.
@ikaos ''What I said was a fan who “cares about (my) preservation of detail” should not be happy with the transfer''
There I fixed it for you. I already explained how your definition of detail is not of the majority.
''But it’s not how the show is supposed to look'' This is why I bring up your releases. You are so militant of what the show is suppose to look like but not when it comes to the audio. Why is that? You do know that dubs are inaccurate and the audio soundtrack is not what the show is suppose to sound like?. You are picking and choosing what to preserve and gate-keep.
'''Obviously 480p is “bad” because it’s older, but that doesn’t mean we should blindly accept whatever 1080p transfer FUNi decides to put out'' No. 480p isnt bad beacause its ''older'' your pivoting and moving the goal post again. It was always bad. We just didnt know until HD came along. I didnt throw out my SD480p CRTV because it was ''older''. It was because I bought an HDTV which proved 480p was inferior to HD in detail. I'v had a 1080TV since 2012. Im not going to throw it out because its old. And no ones ''blindly accepting'' anything that is a complete strawman. When people download your stuff are they blindly accepting it? No they are just getting what they came there for.
''My intent is only to educate. You shouldn’t feel “bad” for liking or downloading this release, but you should at least be aware of its visual shortcomings'' Very smug of you to think you need to educate anyone. You are not an expert just a regular joe who encodes DBZ in small sizes. Its not a even a Dragon Box remux. So for someone to care much for ''preservation of detail'' this is embarrassing. And a large assumption on your part to think that no one here is aware of how the bluray looks. Why would anyone download a 1.4TB blindly?. How about helping seeding this torrent instead of being outraged. Did you even download? Probably not. So dont come here try to save face for the uploader.
This comment section is turning into a WinxBloom1980 2.0.
Anyway,
> Why would anyone download a 1.4TB blindly?
Some people like to have most or "all" releases regardless if it's shit.
(1) @Beatrixly I seed everything I download from this site but I didn't know that downloading a torrent was a requirement to post in a comment section when I never said that I had issues with the torrent itself.
Somehow you took my initial comment about the flaws in this release to imply that everyone should go and download my release instead, despite the fact that I don't even link to my own encodes if someone asks about the Dragon Box is highest possible quality, as evidenced earlier in this thread and on other various comments on this site. I know my own release doesn't preserve 100% of all detail because it's an encode. When I talk about the Dragon Box having more detail, I'm talking about the source, or a remux, not my own personal release. My release is something I am making for myself that I just happen to upload here because I thought other people would want it.
Why do I add multiple dubs and yet have only one video source? Aside from the logistics of having an mkv with two completely different video tracks being incredibly difficult and pointless, the 30A didn't even exist when I started. If someone wanted to do the same project but with this video instead of R2J Dragon Box, then they could, but that person isn't going to be me. Again, you can like whatever version of the show you want, you can download what you want.
(2) I'm not sure why you've decided to make this about me. I've never said that I'm anything more than an encoder who barely knows what he's doing. But everything I've said about this release comes from people with way more experience and knowledge about this kind of thing, and I'm just passing it on because if anything this fandom has shown itself to NOT be educated about what the process of remastering and restoring this show to HD should result in. If this transfer doesn't bother you, then that's ok. But don't call me and others out for stating facts about the remastering process.
You've obviously made up your mind about me and my opinions though so I don't really have an interest in continuing down this path. Enjoy your release since it's likely the best 1080p version of the show that you're going to get.
@iKaos ''Personally I can watch a Dragon Box rip on my 65" TV and it looks perfectly fine.''
You presented this as evidence against my argument now your like why so personal bro? lmao. I was curious and clicked on your page and found your personal work. So I assumed you were talking about your own rips. Now I could be wrong about that. But it doesnt negate what I said. Yes I like to point out when people are hypocrites,bias and hold two different positions that are flawed. In one case it was ''suppose to look like''.
You injected yourself into my convo saying @Tesseract was correct. That dude clearly was in bad faith. He didnt have of an opinion of his own and linked to twitter and youtube personalities. Now your saying your opinion also comes from people with way more experience and knowledge about this kind of thing. Why dont you link an expert source? Some ''educator'' you are :(. Probably its because its the same pathway of thinking as him. So its official you came here not to download. You completely doge the question. So the only thing I can go by is that you came here because you got triggered when I talked about the dragon boxies flaws.''the Dragon Box itself has incorrect colors, bad 480p resolution and also has reduced grain removal. So there you go no release is perfect.'' Thats what I said. I never said the 30th anniversary was perfect also. I am enjoying ,its DBZ!. And you say that now but everyone thought the last blu-ray was it until this bluray came out. Unfortunately I have to correct you again cause i know your just an ''encoder who barely knows what he’s doing''. This is no such thing as ''more HD''. Boom Roasted
@Romao Pshhh bro wheres the level set pic at? Cause im all about grain bro. im all about preservation of detail and art of the show so all those are bad. Im so ride or die dragon ball z ended with level 1.2 episode 39 . You feel me? Let me educate you son
@Tesseract Can you reupload/seed again your release of "Dragon Ball Z 30th Anniversary [Encode]"? It is dead now and I would very much like to have your encode for collection. Thank you very much, I really love your release.
Thanks for the share

This one is clearly only for collectors who want everything just for the sake of having it, nothing more.
They released it in 4:3 yet still cropped frames(a lot in some cases), removed grain and thereby detail, inevitably, only to
add fake grain(why? either keep the original or leave it degrained since you did that) and of course fucked up the colors
(what an amazing accomplishment, how professional).
Seeded back the tiny portion I downloaded to check it out for myself, have fun storing it or whatever.
I remember Malus saying he would delete his encode if the CXRAW one was better, which it is. (Still not good tho.) Maybe the remux was deleted because no one wanted to seed it.
> This one is clearly only for collectors who want everything just for the sake of having it, nothing more.
Well, you have a different definition of "collector", I'll leave at that.
Indeed Impakt, there are various definitions of "collector" and a dictionary is your friend in that regard, although the meaning may differ depending on context and one's purpose for collecting among many other factors. Considering the vagueness of said sentence you are right to leave "it" at that :)
i dont know why they dont just run the film they have through a scanner and use that, why waste all the time effort and money ruining it w dnr when it looks waaaay better as is, its like there intentionally fucking it up
