For those who want a smaller 1080p encode. The movie is really static and really easy to compress, with the main movie being only 1.33GB even at `crf=18`. The "surround" audio is only 3 channels LOL.
~~I watched it with Aniplex subs and they're fine. Komorebi's subs are also fine to me, though they will release v1 probably next week and people who want fancy typesetting should wait for that.~~
Update: There are better subs out there now. If you still want a small HEVC encode with both audio tracks just remux the better subs into this release.

availability of alternatives has nothing to do with quality. they could be the only subs and still be anywhere from great to shit. terrible argument.

the problem with aniplex's subs is usually that the translation is bad. the english can be perfectly fine. in fact, it's probably how they manage to fool most people into thinking their subs aren't bad.

The problem is accurate translation vs. localization. IMO for casual watchers on these platforms, localization is the better strategy for a coherent conversation. While I do miss actual "fan subbing" filled with TL notes and often falling back to Japanese when something's untranslatable, it's rather confusing for people unfamiliar with the language and culture.

I personally rate a subtitle "fine" if it is watchable and doesn't stray off the original Japanese meaning too far. Never really understood why people would complain about localization discrepancies. If you understand Japanese it's not hard to ignore it. I've been doing that for years and I'm still alive.

I'll uh, just agree to disagree. The subs definitely aren't the best out there but they're fine to me.
