wow this is bad..... might as well watch it on dvd. Guess you guys can't afford a proper hard drive lololol. That or you need a better internet plan. Quality is supposed to get better with time not worse.....
I don't know how upscaling works so i'm not sure what the results should have actually been. This guy above me mentioned a hard drive and an internet plan. Not sure how those things are relevant. I was under the impression that this is exactly what's on the BluRay that was ripped. Either way it's as he/she also said, it's really bad.
It's not encoders fault the source itself might have been trash.
This literally looks like someone used one of those SNES emulator shaders that try and make straight lines out of the pixels.
Anybody know a good source for Chobits? I've been comparing and none seems optimal.
this really looks like trash. i DO know however that chobits is one of the worst offenders of the dvd>bd era, however this shit here is merely a transcode of another encode from a bad source.
Funi has uncut version in dual audio I can rip and provide them here if only I had the bandwidth for it.
@ doomedfreak ... from what you are saying, I can about imagine that my old avi (I think they are avi) format copies are better quality than what is currently showing up for Chobits uploads ... I have mine stored on an archive HDD ... I don't know how to set up a torrent, but if someone was willing to, I could dig out my old copies and upload them to a mega account so someone could grab them
for any one who is looking for better quality uploads of Chobits ... try these links (I think I had grabbed the yanix upload, and from what I remember the video and sound quality was good) https://nyaa.si/view/1008118 https://nyaa.si/view/1118555 https://nyaa.si/view/1145627 and if any one wants the complete manga ... here is a link for that (2 omnibus vol's) https://nyaa.si/view/1095125
@komugi thank you very much
@ doomedfreak ... no biggie, if those links help some people, that is good :-)
For those that complained about the encode I have the Bluray and I can confirm the upscaling on the Bluray is at fault. Funimation's "Remaster" Looks quite a bit like they just hooked up an upscaling DVD player to a capture card. I was ripping this from my own disc for my Plex server, and after seeing the quality decided to download a DVD Rip for comparison. Much like Samurai Champloo, this series' Blu-ray release suffered from improper transfer to HD medium. The Blu-ray is slightly sharper most of the time, but the panning sequences suffer from some minor stutter and some color reproduction, and there are some places where detail is lost where the upscaling algorithm screws up. Rips from the Geneon/Pioneer DVD set do look better (if left at their original resolution), but the Funimation DVD release is worse than this encode and the Blurays.
