Rather than season by season, have you thought to go story arc by story arc?
Dragon Ball Z - 01 - Saiyan arc (Episodes 001–035)
Dragon Ball Z - 02 - Freeza arc (Episodes 036–107)
Dragon Ball Z - 03 - Garlic Jr. arc (Episodes 108–117)
Dragon Ball Z - 04 - Artificial Human & Cell arc (Episodes 118–194)
Dragon Ball Z - 05 - Afterlife Tournament arc (Episodes 195–199)
Dragon Ball Z - 06 - Majin Buu arc (Episodes 200–291)
Dragon Ball Z - TV Specials
Episode guide: https://www.kanzenshuu.com/episode/dbz/
Seems kind of insignificant to make arcs with so few episodes, tbh. The series usually is regarded by four arcs - Saiyan, Freeza, Cell and Majin Boo.
Dragon Ball Kai on the other hand has four arcs too but slightly different - Saiyan, Freeza, Artificial Human and Cell. Kai TFC has just one arc - Majin Boo (hence "The Final Chapters").
Btw, great up, iKaos!
The seasons are just a way for me to break things up into manageable chunks, and they're named as such because that's how they're organized on my server. I'm aware no one actually breaks down the show into 9 seasons. If anything the arcs make sense but then I'd go years between releases.
@andiandi No "Mind Power... Ki" is on all JPN tracks as usual, but the English/Kikuchi track never has vocal insert songs due to what I assume are licensing issues (they still have "Battle Point Unlimited" and "Solid State Scouter" though). So I reinserted the song into the English/Kikuchi track, same as I did with 20 and 28. Obviously the songs aren't in the Faulconer tracks.
hey ikaos... meaning to ask you that you are not using season blurays flac audio for faulconer score, instead going for the orange bricks audio??
also i notice that the level sets torrent (113 gb), it didn't have the original funimation dub audio???
@ Silent Echo
The "Ocean Dub" aka Saban dub lasted only for the first 53 edited episodes, then later on there was the Westwood dub which begun on 108 through 276. Yeah, they used the censored 276 episode version, unfortunately.
For all the shit AB Groupe gets, they featured all 291 episodes with some (odd) cuts and retained the original musical score.
@avisingh I use the OB audio for the simple reason that I can run the Dragon Radar to sync it to R2J. I would have to manually sync both remastered tracks in addition to the two tracks I already have to manually sync. It would take me forever and I already feel like my schedule is somewhat slow.
Not sure what you mean by "original" FUNi dub audio for the levels. For 1-67 (53 edited) the Saban/Ocean dub was the "original" dub for the show. The first version of the dub for 1-67 with the in-house FUNi cast was the Ultimate Uncut Dub, which is included in the levels for the first 27 episodes, when the UUE release was canceled. It's basically the same as the "Remastered" dub though, which is on all 291 episodes.
@SylentEcho the Westwood Dub (it's not really the Ocean dub, it just uses the same actors) is more heavily edited than it seems and when I did some tests with the early episodes it became apparent that I was looking at another editing job on the same level as the Saban/Ocean dub, which I was fine to do for 67 episodes as I have a nostalgic attachment to them, but to do the same thing for ~170 episodes for a dub I've never even seen... it's a lot.
If an R2J synced version was released, I would add it in no questions asked.
It's a shame about the Westwood dub but most fans didn't grow up with that dub (English-speaking, to be exact), anyway. Waiting patiently for the day there'll be a complete series batch, that will be awesome! ?
@iKaos, i would love to help sync up the westwood dub, i've done one episode in the past just for fun but it seems to be highly apreciated over here.
Since your release is the most complete release yet I think it's cool to include westwood. contact me on discord ( Tandi#3507 ) if you're interested.
can you upscale the resolution?
I increased the resolution of the DBOX.
here are screenshots:- https://imgur.com/a/tPc6CT9
its the first time i tried upscaling them.
@CreeperBlocks they cropped a 4:3 show to 16:9 which cut out a good portion of the picture, than they applied dnr to remove the grain which smeared out all the fine detail, they claim its what the majority of the comsumer base really its just cheaper than to do a proper release, in my opinion
@ Lucifer
That to me doesn't look very good, it's almost at the same level of 'remaster' that FUNimation does. Simply look at the detail and the background, and you'll see what's wrong with it.
@ Creeper
FUNimation 'remastered' the DBZ series in a cropped 16:9 AR that was never intended to be seen in and given that it was an automated process it made even worse as the machine just wiped out details altogether. The Season Blu-rays (16:9) and 30th Blu-rays (4:3) aren't much of an upgrade either compared to the Season DVDs, but are compared to it.
Now, the FUNimation dub? They made several attempts at making it better but they only got it (kinda) right with Dragon Ball Kai and even then it wasn't flawless (Colleen Clinkenbeard as Gohan wasn't the wisest choice as she made him sound too effeminate).
@Impakt yes this is the first time i tried upscaling the Dbox. i still have a lot to learn. my screenshots look like those 30th anniversary crap. ill appreciate some tips regarding CC & Upscaling.
"There’s not much point to me doing split season releases anymore, so future seasons will be released all at once, like this one."
I agree.
And thank you so much. You don't know how much I appreciate this.
I'm actually waiting for the day you finish this release just so that I can watch it once again, in high quality. LOL
@Ikaos, I understand.
Also, is the Mono Broadcast Audio here of better clarity than the Funi singles? It certainly seems WAY better than the Dragon Box version.
The source for DBZ OBA used nowadays is very good and it was thanks to AnimeMaakuo, but there's an even better one. Dbox audio and the FUNimation cleanups don't stand a chance against it.

@TandiBandi I'll contact you, I'm interested in including the dub.
@LMS666 I don't believe in upscaling when you don't have the original film because you can't create detail that wasn't already there in the first place. Ideally your TV should do the upscaling as those have dedicated hardware. I've watch my own episodes on my 65" OLED TV and they look fine. If you're watching on a monitor than it really shouldn't make a difference.
@CreeperBlocks the pre-Kai dub has a lot of objective issues, although how much those issues affect you depends on your own expectations of how anime should be treated. During season 3 (Freeza saga) the studio had just started dubbing its own stuff and barely knew what it was doing, and its reflected in all aspects of the show, from the scripts, to the acting, to the audio mixing, to the wildly varying quality of the replacement score. They kind of figured some stuff out by season 4, but it's really only a "decent" dub during the Buu saga. FUNi tried to fix some of their older mistakes with the UUE and remastered dubs, but they're a mish-mash of scripts and performances (in season 3 you have 1999 Sean Schemmel talking to 2005 Christopher Sabat, for example, and it shows). It's really only Kai that got the proper treatment, with a mostly accurate script, higher quality directing and acting (and VAs, fight me), and the originally intended music.
@SylentEcho The BA I used is from the Tokai broadcast, which while not the "best" quality available (the Fuji audio that Impakt posted is definitely better, as is to a lesser extent the Ishikawa audio), it is the most consistent in terms of availability (it exists for all 291 episodes, including recaps and NEPs whereas there's only like 2 Fuji episodes released). Any BA, however, is miles above the Dragon Box audio in terms of clarity and fidelity (although I would argue DBOX has more bass and depth, but that's why I include them both).
@iKaos thank you so much for your work, this collection will surely become the definitive DBZ batch
S04E16.123 has its audio sources for track 2 and 3 swapped. Track 2 for Funi dub + Kikuchi score is actually the Faulconer Score, and track 3 for the Funi dub + Falconer score is the Kikuchi score.
@iKaos
Mega link is not working, tried with several browsers, even with VPN, still cannot access Mega link with fixed episode 123

@Impakt, can you share it via google drive or torrent, your choice
I got access to link but video is deleted, it's unavailable, this is what it says
The file you are trying to download is no longer available.
This could be due to the following reasons:
The file has been removed because of a ToS/AUP violation.
Invalid URL - the link you are trying to access does not exist
The file has been deleted by the user.
Sorry the MEGA link got taken down. Re-hosted on Google: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/131x_qUIhDHcbkTrAgSTx598nZ2wuPwGY?usp=sharing
But yeah it's easier just to change the tags with MKVToolNix.
Hey I just got around to watching your ep 1-39 pack and I noticed on ep 4 at timestamp 11:12 to 11:16, there's a ringing sound for the audio track Tokai BA. It's the same for both the Dragonbox and the Level Set pack. I only briefly skimmed some of the episodes so there might be more.
Ringing sound? Like an emergency?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jxouaQMHbuQ
This happens when you least expect on TV but shouldn't be on the Dbox track.
@boobychan Thanks, yeah I missed it on first go around even though I had heard that it was on some episodes. The tracks on both releases are exactly the same so make sense it's on both. I have an assorted number of fixes that I'll add to that folder over time before I make sure everything is 100% fixed for my final batch at the end of the series.
@Imapkt Yeah that's the noise. He's talking about my two releases of 1-39, the Levels and the DBOX, not the two JPN audio tracks.
@Tashi Not committing to anything yet but I'm probably going to do the movies at least. Dragon Ball is the only other one that doesn't have a decent encoded release from start to finish.
im wonder if iKaos and TandiBandi ever got anywhere with syncing the Westwood dub? is there even any good sources? I'm pretty sure i have it somewhere deep in my HDD from Kametsu awhile ago but im pretty sure it never got a home release?
Oh so the remastered dub was only up to the Freeza Saga then, in regards to any real redubbing like Chris Sabat's Vegeta? Thats disappointing. My memories of the funi dubs are really mixed up then.
