“Newspaper columnist Shiro Yamaoka and his rookie partner Yuko Kurita continue their research into writing “The Ultimate Menu,” a series of articles on gourmet food. While attending a restaurant re-opening with the staff of Tozai News, Yamaoka runs into his estranged father, the famous gourmet, scholar, and potter, Yuzan Kaibara. After an argument between the two over what makes the best sashimi, Yamaoka and Kurita take a trip to the seaside town of Hayama to try and catch the extra rare and extra tasty ‘phantom mackerel’.”
