Hello!
I recently rewatched the whole Monogatari Series and thus decided to make this. I attempted to mux the **highest quality** raws with the **highest quality** subtitles for the whole series as of currently (July 2019). I retimed what was necessary and the timing should be perfect for every single episode. Please do let me know if you find a timing error.
*Disclaimer: This is not a definitive compilation by no means, there's a lot that can still be improved further.*
The raws are taken from Beatrice and ReinForce. Beatrice’s are better, so I gave them priority. What they didn’t have, I resorted to ReinForce.

They are mostly Commie, and indeed seem to be the best of the best right now. Some of them still can be improved, mainly the arcs that Commie hasn’t released yet.
Something to note is that I did **NOT** include the NCOP’s and NCED’s, the Extras (BD Scans, Music Singles, Audio Commentaries, etc) and the Recaps. If you want those, go look for them in other releases.

Nope, Owari S2 subs are definitely the ones that need the most improvement. Specially Ougi Dark's arc. The other 2 arcs improve a lot on CR's subs and do have pretty decent typesetting but Ougi's ark not so much.

That's one of many problems in official subs, but I only have experience in TSing and not translation issues for instance. So I can't personally confirm the latter when present.

Beatrice-Raws are better if you’re into filtered rips with sharper and crisper visual quality. ReinForce does the best unfiltered rips.
I’d personally go with something more natural and faithful to the source. However, it doesn’t mean that I’m not interest in this release. Great work.
Thanks for putting this release together! While I personally prefer honorifics and CGi's dialogue overall for some seasons, this is a nice compilation. I do have some concerns about this being a definitive release with the "highest quality subtitles" available though.
- From kitsunekko (reddit post), did you grab the latest edits made as of 4 months ago or just the original released all-in-one archive from the google drive? Some newer minor corrections were made.
- Tap24 recently went through and did a complete typesetting pass of 1000+ signs for Nisemonogatari based on Coalgirls/Commie subs. I personally find quite a substantial amount of TS to be better in that release such as episode 8's manga panels. There's also the weird inserted title card in the corner at the beginning of episode 4 that doesn't seem to be in any other episode (at first glance).
- Kizu 3 seems to be based on Edo's v1 subs. Edo touched up on the translation, typesetting, and timing of the original subs in their v2 release. Kizu 1 & 2 I'm assuming commie was used -- though I personally lean more towards liking Edo's dialogue, translation, and ts.
- Zoku Owari subs are a toss-up between MTBB and Edo. Can't go wrong with either, though I prefer Edo for some lines. However it's also unfinished and still waiting on a final QC for the last 3 episodes to be released.
- Owari S2 subs are incredibly large and inconsistent between episodes. Compare episode 6 with episode 3. The BDMV PGS subs also had the OP/ED translated, i.e. in Tess' release. There's also ToishY's unfinished edited subs.
- A lot of seasons are missing chapter markers that CGi and other releases seem to have. The subtitle files are also not language marked or titled.
Monogatari needs so much more tender loving care to be perfected. :( Hopefully someone can revisit the entire series again in the future to make a true definitive edition. Other than the Kizu movies, I'm happy enough to replace my archive with your compilation. Thanks!

This release is far from perfect for sure. I just tried to do the best I could right now. But there's definitely place for improving this release in the future.
Regarding your concerns:
* I believe I grabbed the subs uploaded 4 months ago, but I'm not entirely sure whether I might have missed some of the latest corrections made.
* That's good to know. I was pretty satisfied with what Nise has currently so I didn't look further, but I'll take note of that for potentially a later compilation.
* Yep, Edo for the third and Commie for the other two.
* I used MTBB's for Zoku.
* Yep, Owari S2 is what needs the most love in this compilation.
* Yeah, some seasons are missing chapters. I'll perhaps get them from other releases in the future as you suggest. Regarding the subs language marking, you're right, I forgot about that.

my point is even if it was typeset, the subs would still be worthless, so it doesn't really matter if they are or not.
if you want to see monogatari series as it should be i recommend the chronological order is more accurate to 90 percent can not be 100 pq that includes the artbooks and cd drama and 300 years before kizumonogatari was the novel wazamonogatari here is the link https://nyaa.si/view/1145900 is the born of acerola
Well you tried. XD I wouldn't recommend Reinforce over yousei, but in any case I know yousei is hard to find, and thanks for doing that.
Kawaiika very recent versions are also more worthwhile than both Reinforce and Beatrice.
He uploaded most of the stuff just yesterday and today.
And no for Neko shiro 4 and Bake 3 these aren't the updated subs.
Just minor corrections however.
On Bake 3 its just a note, in Neko shiro 4 I used 4-5 sentences from LNs where I liked the translation better.
Not worth any hassle imo. I’ll just check things out and prepare a small zip with the files for anyone who wants them.

At this point I don’t mind Nise T/S at all. No idea how big improvement Tap24's T/S is, but all my script edits and consistency edits would be missing if he used those subs.
All I’ll say is that I consider typesetting in Nise more than adequate.
In episodes with heavy typesetting I didn't use commie as base anyway, I used CMS instead.
MTBB said he would consider working on Nise. I might check that out if it happens and edit them for consistency.
Kizu 3 is based on Edo's first version yes. Perfectly happy with the sub, won't change it.
I took great care to make it consistent in tone with Commie Kizu 1&2.
And in general I've done a ton of consistency edits in all seasons. Mixing subs from other releases would just break that.

I want to thank you a lot for the ridiculous work you've put on those subs, and I apologize for having missed some of the corrections.
Do you have plans for Owari II? I would like to release a V2 of this compilation in the future with better raws (perhaps Kawaiika as you suggested), the sub corrections I missed and better subs for some of the arcs, mainly just Owari II.

Those corrections are few and minor. Old sub was 99% spot-on already.

No other changes in T/S compared to CR script, but :
As for Owari 2, script wasn't bad but subs themselves were poor. I fixed many terrible line breaks and some really bad timing choices that killed readability and made an above average script look bad. And consistency edits, catchphrases names etc. It's not perfect, but it's just a placeholder TV release and good enough for me. I'll probably revisit Owari 2 if needed, when additional translations and BD sources are available.

tbh T/S on owari 2 is almost unimportant, barebone CR script is adequate. thats why i didnt work with Toishy improvements.
His KFX for arc 2 aren't included either. MPC-HC won't play them properly.

If you v2 remember to include the 7 commentaries from nise 1+2 koi 1 & ovari 4-5-6 this time. Definitely worth a watch
I also wanna mention that you are using Toishy's subs for Owari 2, not the subs from my batch. And idk your source for Ougi Dark.
You don't make this clear in the description.
Anyway I looked at them some, and looks like there's enough variation between CR script and finalized BD sub.
I also linked above the CR script I modified, so anyone interested can compare and choose.
And as additional reference for any problematic spots.
Depending on my moods, and if I see much room for improvement,
I might try to merge the 2 versions into a better edit, utilizing Toishy's signs as well, after he finishes Ougi Dark.
I don't speak JPN so I need at least 2 translations to compare, mix and match and properly work with.
I can't do much with a translation and a variant.
If a new good script surfaces / or if official LN translation improves the problematic translations,
I'll rewatch and if needed, i'll do whatever I can to improve owari 2 subs.
But I don't expect commie to release fast tbh. it ll take few years most likely.
So i patiently wait for LN (probably next year at some point)

Nothing is perfect, and this release is very good.
It's what I'd recommend to a friend to download and watch atm.
Whatever I mentioned I deem minor and there’s not much to improve here.
Even owari 2 is very watchable and I wouldn't recommend waiting for any release, if you want to watch the series now.
It’s good enough to watch and get your, much wanted, closure.
This looks like a great collection and it's really encouraging that people have pointed out what needs to be done to make it even better,

@tirafesi no idea. tbh havent grabbed kawaiika myself.I was lucky to find BDMV/remuxes for everything.
but i know the encoder (deadnews) from other releases, and timings should be identical with BD.
so most likely yes you wont need to retime.

@BUSHMAN Probably not, but it's not always that's the case. Came as a surprise what -kun, or -chan meant. I knew which gender they were used for. Regardless, I feel it's gives a better impact about the character to have the honorifics. Though the meaning may be clear it tells something about the character that is using it or the reason for it. I agree in our daily language it's hardly seen anyone use honorifics, but I feel it's better translated with honorifics since you care for the characters in the translation. Like for instance it's weird for me after watching 800 ep. of Naruto, Shippuden & Boruto where Naruto refer Sakura as Sakura-chan. If -chan isn't in the subtitles it somehow feels incomplete. I hope with this you understand my point about honorifics. Somehow I can live with it, but I prefer honorifics.

about honorifics, for me its a firm no for monogatari.
because
a) its a show you have to read fairly fast and honorifics would hinder readability- more characters per line to read.
b) its really common for newcomers and inexperienced viewers to not understand that honorifics semantics are variable,
and depend on context and relationships, and actually misunderstand them, giving them one "flat" meaning.
For monogatari in particular they impart almost nothing in 99% of cases.
And usually the people who can understand that fact, can hear them anyway and wont complain :P
tldr if honorifics were included. imo they would worsen the experience...
newcomers...and monogatari...? This is one of the most verbose & deep series around. If honorifics is the issue, then they're not gonna stick around in the first place. Those things matter & people can pause the show. And if someone can't google honorifics, yet use nyaa & navigated to this specific release, then they gotta be beyond clueless...Don't think it's worth calling people names over, but I disagree. As you said, people can listen & hear, but its written word of whats said...some people actually have hearing issues. i have a disability myself tbh. A physical one. Give them the full experience, no matter how minuscule right? So while I understand, it doesn't make much sense imo. it's already incredibly packed material. What does honorifics take away from it.
Regardless though, not a big deal. Just my 2 cents. when i get time/a chance i can't wait to DL!!! Thanks for the effort.

Great work, thank you for doing this and not settling for encodes that are bitrate starved, Beatrice and Reinforce look really good.
Beatrice does look better as it fixes the aliasing issues while still keeping the natural look. Reinforce is best for BDMVs where the image is already near perfect which unfortunately is not the case for this series BDs as there is aliasing, but on a 4K LG TV these aliasing issues are not noticeable with post-processing enabled so no complaints on my end.
About the subs, I understand Japanese so I didn't pay them attention but my SO who is a more casual watcher loved it so again no complaints from me.
Loved watching this, thank you for your time in putting this together, saved me a lot of the leg work of getting into this show.
And I would be weary of going with Kawaiika-Raws as @watashi666 suggested as many of their encodes have framerate issues, you won't find these issues with established groups like Beatrice or Reinforce who have been doing encodes for years.

Thanks! I agree with what you say regarding Beatrice and Reinforce. I am planning on going with Beatrice and Kawaiika for the V2 though. I haven't seen any issue so far with Kawaiika's version.
I do still plan on releasing the V2 but I don't really know when. All of you wondering if you should watch now, know that this version is already very good, the V2 will just bring minor improvements, it's not as though it will be waay better.

well at this point i'd delay v2. As uploader said, for the existing seasons changes at least in subs will be very minor, if any.
and this version is very adequate, so no real reason to wait if you dont want to.
But commentaries are almost complete now, thanks to some awesome guys: https://www.reddit.com/r/araragi/comments/jzlzuk/monogatari_series_audio_commentaries_teaser/ They released about 50 last year so they re moving fast.
And at least for koyo i guess commie will finish soon. I'm waiting for commentaries to finish, and then ill revisit monogatari for my rewatch after ~3 years. at the very least i'll choose a zoku script and make sub consistent with my batch, or edit script a bit if needed -combining edo & mtbb translations, and i'll do the same for existing koyo subs. commentaries are a major addition imo and a great watch. ( at least the 20 or so I ve watched)
Any good release should have them. So tldr: a rough ETA 2-6 months for fresh koyo and zoku subs & full set of comms.
As for video Kawaiika I grabbed the 2 owaris and they look excellent. Reinforce doesn't do great encodes, they re more geared towards speed than quality. their standards are roughly equivalent to scene, so they re adequate for most i guess, but not great. Kawaiika and Beatrice sounds a fine option, unless you can somehow source the yousei encodes from Nise to Tsuki. At this point I know they re available on Moodkiller's xdcc page, and u2.
fwiw kawaiika has trumped yousei encodes on rutracker, i wont say they re necessarily better, but they re both good encodes.I have no intention to replace yousei encodes for now, but kawaiika encodes are much newer and encoders progress, and kawaiika has posted proper comparisons. Also Deadnews (kawaiika) was a Beatrice member for some months, and I know he's a big monogatari fan as well, so I trust his work.

and fyi, reinforce arent abt speed and delivering BD releases early, they mainly try to be as close to the source as possible.
also, kawaiika release is far more superior and includes the audio commentary tracks for most, havent checked if all, of the seasons. definitely use kawaiika if V2 plan is still going
however, quick question watashi666, since you seem pretty knowledgeable abt monogatari, are there any other subs release for the commentary tracks? and are the ones from that release great?
extra note, I have found that in the commentary tracks subs, Senjougahara is written as Senjyogahara....
also, is it possible to list the sources of the subs you used for your collection watashi?

the one you linked only has few after bake,
but there is an ongoing project (and almost finished, only missing few commentaries now.)
It pretty much happened in 2020 so no one included them in a release yet.

quick question though, kinda related with preference, but i need some opinions to finalize my decision, what do you think abt having all the subs for every season in the monogatari series use the same font for the 'Default' styling... same size, font, and even outline?? font style being Montara Gothic

though quick question, dont you think they require some re-styling? like decreasing the font size a bit, from 81 --(to)->> 75, same font size used for the 'default' style?? but maybe that is just me being nit picky ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
edit 2: after reading your 'read me', your reasons seem more nitpicky than me, lol no offense, for my collection i went with mostly commie and did some styling edits, like reducing the font size to a much more 'aesthetic fitting size' if that makes sense, and i honestly did some comparisons with the subs from this release, and i think commie subs did a better job in reflecting what has been said, especially in nise, coalgirls/ToshiY subs, which where used in this release, where pretty meeh if you'd ask me
edit 3: actually the commentary audio's in the reddit post you sent, from the araragi discord are in lossy format, which is a bummer, i have them in lossless ¬‿¬
Also,, another quick question that id like to have your opinion in, would you recommend watching kizu between owari s1 and koyomi?? If the overall experience would be better with the hint of mystery and the ‘aha’ moment at the end is by watching it that way, i dont mind, but what do you think abt it? When would it be best to watch kizu??
