### UPDATE (2021.01.08): THIS RELEASE WILL BE REPLACED THIS WEEK, PLEASE HOLD OFF DOWNLOADING UNTIL THE NEW BATCH RELEASE ### **Previous releases:** Saiyan Saga (Level Sets) (1-39): [#1145615](https://nyaa.si/view/1145615) *** **Updates :** 1. This release uses the R2J Dragon Box for its video source instead of the level sets. 2. Aside from the video source, the audio content in this torrent is identical to my v3 level set release linked above. 3. On the original R2J DVD, Episode 24 has an encoding error (interlaced rather than progressive) for the first half of the episode. I went around this error by using the R1/US Dragon Box as a source for the first half of the episode, and the R2J source for the second half. 4. The first batch of Freeza episodes should be coming soon. *** *These episodes are compiled from the following sources. Unless otherwise specified, I am the original encoder for all elements:* **Video:** 1. 4x3 480p R2J Dragon Box - *from raw ISOs* **Audio - 6 tracks:** 1. Japanese Mono Tokai Broadcast Audio (FLAC) - *originally released by AnimeMaakuo, retimed by me* 2. English 2007 5.1 FUNimation "Remastered" Dub w/Shunsuke Kikuchi score (AC3) - *from the R1/US Dragon Box* 3. English 2007 2.0 FUNimation “Remastered” Dub w/Nathan Johnson score (AC3) - *from the Season Sets (1-8) and Orange Bricks (9-39)* 4. English 2005 5.1 FUNimation Ultimate Uncut Edition Dub (AAC) - *from the UUE DVDs (1-27 only)* 5. English 1996 2.0 Saban/Ocean Dub (AAC) - *A re-creation of the original English dub, custom made by me, with gaps filled in with the FUNi/Kikuchi dub in an attempt to create a relatively seamless nostalgic viewing experience. Sourced from the "Rock The Dragon" DVD Set* 6. Japanese DVD Audio (AC3) - *from the R2J Dragon Box* *** **Random Notes:** 1. Insert songs have been re-added to FUNi/Kikuchi episodes 20 and 28. They were omitted from the official release. 2. The NEP from Ocean episode 10 (Uncut episode 14) was pulled from the Madman single since it was omitted from the RTD release. 3. Thanks to JySzE for Orange Brick resources. 4. Thanks to N12 for UUE resources. [MediaInfo](https://pastebin.com/TbM8N99U)

Nice! Thanks for all your work!
@iKaos Thank you sooo much for this masterpiece of a release!! Your devotion and work are outstanding! Those are the ultimate releases for Z in my books! Though, I would like to ask you what is your personal preference/suggestion on archiving and watching Z: • For episodes 1-39: Level Sets or R2J Dragon Box? • Mono / Dual / Tri / Quad / Quint or Hex audio? Specifically which audio(s)/dub(s) would you choose and prefer yourself? The JP only (DBox or BA or both), the ENG (Funi redub with Kikuchi or ENG music score or both, Ocean, original Funi or all of them) or both? I believe you included all those different options of dubs to satisfy different kinds of fans right? I want to know which version would you personally choose yourself. Thanks again!!
Dude, I bought the Dbox Z Single and it actually comes with episode 24. I'm curious if the encoding is better than the Dbox one. I'll share it when I get it.

@Yusei573 Personally I prefer the level sets, hence why I focused on that one so much for release. It would be my preferred way to watch the series if it existed past 39. For everything else it's the Dragon Boxes. At this point I usually watch the show in Japanese with the broadcast audio, but if I want to do a nostalgia trip I'll watch with the audio of how I originally watched the series, so for 1-67 it's the Ocean dub, 68+ it's FUNi, usually the "remastered" dub with Eng music as the original dub hasn't aged well at all in my opinion. The rest of the dubs are more curiosities to me. To be honest if I really want English DBZ, I just watch Kai. @Super_Saiyan_Lusitano I believe the singles are the same as the DBOX, according to gravitypriest (who runs the Dragon Radar) that includes the interlaced error: https://github.com/gravitypriest/dragon-radar/issues/3#issuecomment-277099937
@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano . Awsome job .
@iKaos Ah, interesting! So from your point of view, the most ideal pattern for Z is: • Episodes 1-39: Level Sets with Broadcast audio and subbed • Episodes 40-291: R2J Dragon Boxes with Broadcast audio and subbed While for Kai: • Episodes 1-98: R2J BDs with English Dub - Yamamoto score (no JP dub) • Episodes 99-167: R1 BDs with English Dub (no JP dub) Did I get them right?

@Yusei573 I mean, that's what I would do if I was introducing the series to someone for the first time (not leaving out Dragon Ball, obviously). I have no opinion on the JPN Kai dub but most people say the performances on the original are better. Yamamoto, despite being plagiarized, is a better fit for Kai than Kikuchi. Kai TFC is kind of a train wreck in terms of quality but still has a better English dub than DBZ.
Hm, the difference between the JP and US Blu-rays of Kai is negligible. Plus, the FUNimation Kai dub is available with the Yamamoto score for all 98 episodes but that's a custom job and the audio files were released in compressed AAC files. Kai TFC? The German Blu-rays are easily the best out there for a definitive Kai TFC release. By the way, it's not "R2J BDs" because Blu-rays use letters whereas DVD use numbers. Japan is Region A for Blu-rays, and Region 2 for DVDs.
@iKaos Ah, I see your point there! Good to know! See, I have a cousin who wants to start the series so I wanted your personal recommendation on this if you please. So far you're suggesting (please correct me if I'm wrong at any point): ° Dragon Ball: • Episodes 1-153: R2J Dragon Boxes with JP DVD audio and subbed ° Dragon Ball Z: • Episodes 1-39: Level Sets with JP Broadcast audio and subbed • Episodes 40-291: R2J Dragon Boxes with JP Broadcast audio and subbed 1) For Dragon Ball (since you won't be working on it), do you have any specific release you'd recommend or there isn't one? 2) Besides the DB and DBZ anime series, would you suggest any of the other aspects of the franchise to archive (like Super, Kai, GT, movies, TV specials, OVAs) or just those two? @Super_Saiyan_Lusitano Thanks for pointing that out! It's good to know that!

@Yusei573 In the past I've recommended [Pendekar's](https://nyaa.si/?f=0&c=0_0&q=pendekar+dragon+ball) releases, but they've only released about half the show. At this point though Super_Saiyan_Lusitano released a remux, which is as high quality as you can get aside from the actual ISOs, which you can find here: https://nyaa.si/view/1133179 All the original movies are at the same time both fun and unnecessary since they're not canonical with the TV series. The TV Specials for Z are canonical with the anime, however, and should be included in a watch. I never watched GT so have no opinion on it. As for modern Dragon Ball, it's very hit and miss - the OVAs are kind of pointless, Battle of Gods is ok and Resurrection F is.... not great. I haven't even been able to finish Super (therefore I haven't seen the Broly movie) as the quality is all over the place and the first two arcs are just retellings of those movies. The Future Trunks arc is interesting but has a lot of nonsensical decisions made during it. I know Dragon Ball in general isn't the place for super deep plots and storytelling but Super suffers from a lack of stakes and it just makes large parts of it kind of boring. But again, people like different things, so if you're a fan of the Dragon World in general... why not watch everything?
@iKaos Thank you very much for your suggestions! They really helped out a lot! I'll certainly take them into account! Also, I wanted to request something if possible of course (in the future of course cause I do not wish to trouble your project timing or anything). Will you please consider uploading the untouched Season BDs FLAC English Dub with Kikuchi score audio tracks synched to your releases (so I can mux them instantly myself) and with the JP insert songs re-added for episodes 20, 28 etc.? Just like you did for your AC3 tracks? It would be immensely appreciated! Also, some last specifications if you'd like: 1) How come you didn't color correct the DBox NEPs of the Level Sets and the DBox episodes in general according to the Level Sets? Do you deem they don't need color correction? 2) Have you quality checked the subs for their accuracy of translation and for any typos or errors? Are they perfect and archive worthy to your standards? Also, how come you didn't include any translations and/or kanji for the insert songs? 3) Is the quality of the Broadcast Audio you're using the highest quality you can produce (from all the BA versions that popped up over the net)? Is it the optimal quality? Thanks again for your hard work and time!!
so besides the alt intro song is the uue track just the johnson track but in 5.1 as opposed to 2.0?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Yusei573 I have no interest in color correcting in general, as that's a big time suck and I already don't have a lot of it. The DBOX definitely needs color corection, but I'm not the one to do it. That being said I do recall doing it on a few scattered NEPs on the Level Set release as they really stood out, but I didn't do any comparing to cells or anything like that. If anyone ever does tackle the whole series, assuming they release in a decent quality, you can mux the audios from this into their release. The main subs are just re-styled Simmons subs from the R1 releases, which have always been accurate to me (I assume, I don't speak Japanese lol). The signs/songs track is literally ported straight from the R1 DVDs with no styling. I suppose I could do styling for the insert songs myself, but that just increases my workload. I'm using the Tokai audio in what, to me, is optimal quality. Ishikawa can be a bit better, in that there's less buzzing, but it's incomplete. But to me the buzzing is not that noticeable unless you're looking for it. There are others that are syncing the Ishikawa audio, so that can always be muxed in as well. @Annhilater1985 Basically, yeah, aside from the first 8 episodes which have a few different music placements for recaps/eyecatches/endings from the season sets.
@ikaos one more thing, im about to try my hand at resyncing the old bluewater dub, what method did you use need something productive to kill time at work

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Annhilater1985 I use Premiere. I bring in the video with the English 5.1 track into a timeline, and then load up the other dub's source video and audio. I discovered that Saban always made their cuts and the end rather than the beginning of a shot, so I would find the first part of the video of the Saban dub that matched something in the uncut dub (if I got lucky it was the first shot after the title card, but usually it was something a few shots in). I would then overlay the entire Saban video and audio over the uncut dub at the match point, resize the Saban video so I could see both tracks at the same time, and mute the 5.1 audio so I could just hear the Ocean audio, and then I would let the track play until something got out of sync, at which point I'd make a cut and move the Saban/Ocean track ahead to the next point. On a good episode I wouldn't have to do too many edits - on a bad one (like 35) there would be an edit every other shot and I'd have to constantly be moving around the Saban/Ocean track to new locations. After I did the rough edit of a whole episode, I'd have to go back and figure out how to smooth out the dialogue/music transitions. In some cases, I could mute the Kikuchi score, in others it was too difficult, in rare cases I could loop the Wasserman score (mostly in the first few episodes where the Wasserman score was actually released) and in some cases I had to reorder dialogue because it wouldn't flow properly from one line to the next. When I'm all done I export the audio in AAC at the bitrate of the lowest thing (so RTD was released in 192kb/s, so that's how I exported it). I think I made this sound more difficult than it really was, but yeah. I've said it before but from an editor's perspective it's amazing with how many things Saban cut here and there to trim down episodes that DBZ was still pretty coherent.
Thanks so much for these iKaos, Hopefully now these will be the definitive release with the proper BA, While I don't much care for the other English tracks its cool that their there for those that want them.
@ iKaos I didnt realize that much work went into it, im starting w a dub thats already been synced and trimmed to the dragon box so hopefully itll just be a case of filling in the gaps w the funi dub, hopefully

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Annhilater1985 If it's already synced then you shouldn't need to do anything, just mux it in with MKVToolNix. I was under the impression Blue Water was edited, though, in which case it can't already be synced to the R2J because there'd be stuff missing.

User
once again, another kickass project.Do you intend to see it through despite the huge amount of episodes?for the later seasons, are you going to use both the original 1999 dub and the revised dub from the remastered sets until the last episode?are you going to use the Ocean dub for the Cell and Buu sagas?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@pg1 I have no intention of stopping (I should have part of season 3 released within the week). My only issues as always is limited time to actually work on the project - when I have time I can actually move pretty fast. That being said there are a number of other DBOX releases being worked on by others, so it's always possible they will finish before I do, and if there's is better, then there won't be anything for me to do. My plan is to have 3 English tracks - the 5.1 English/Kikuchi "Remastered" dub, the 2.0 English/Faulconer Productions "Remastered" dub, and the original 1999-2003 dub for all episodes, in addition of course to the Japanese BA. I am officially undecided on Westwood but I'm leaning towards no since it will massively increase my workload, since it's an edited dub and not in the greatest quality to begin with.

pg1

User
I actually have the Westwood dub properly synched to the uncut footage that I downloaded somewhere long time ago.Problem is:they are achived in DVDs and I currently have no DVD player to check them...otherwise,I would give them to you right away. EDIT:I did some search and found this. https://mega.nz/#F!WEEGwD4b!wImrVaMHlize_ogLy6nV5g!iYkygZyb It's better than nothing I guess.
@ikaos thats what i thought too but someone was nice enough to make a version synced to the gt dragonbox a long time ago, they just cut out the pervious episode reap and some parts at the end, shouldnt be too much work to fix
Thank you so much for doing these releases. I will continue to follow your releases and use them for my Plex server :)
@iKaos There seems to be an error in episode 37. The audio of the "Next episode" chapter is wrong, I've just compared it to the R2 source and they are different. By the way, you are doing a really good job, thanks for sharing.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Tibarn It seems like that's one of the episodes where the BA is partly an ad for a movie (Movie 2 in this case) and so they re-recorded a regular NEP for the Dragon Box. Usually I've been cutting those BA NEPs out and using Dragon Box audio, but looks like I missed one. I will release fixed audio... eventually. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Thanks for letting me know where they came from because I couldn't figure it out. Btw, I am checking all episodes, everything is fine from 1 to 60.
Which one is better and why? This or Romao's torrent? https://nyaa.si/view/1114198
Is it supposed to be this grainy? Its like watching sand...
nvm got used to it
Thank so much for these! And sorry to bother but does anyone else get random incomplete cuts every so often usually 3/4 an episode? I woudl t even mention because this is obviously passion project of time and resources but some parts it really breaks the mood of the show. For example during saibamen attack yamcha is standing by the downed saibamen the next frame after is the saibamen already on yamcha its a really wierd cut.
I apologize for the comment above the files are most definitely great my PleX was having issues with the files I'm not sure why since plex can play 80gb videos no issue. Probably my pc or something. Thanks so much for these releases u have done such a great thing :D
In episode 4 there's a weird beeping sound at 10:35 from the broadcast audio source. What is that? It sounds like some sort of emergency jingle. Is it a byproduct of the broadcast audio being from a live tv broadcast?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@bottlekun sorry for the delayed response, I don't check these comments often. Yeah there are emergency sounds scattered throughout the original broadcast audios. In the time since this release Team Mirolo has done their own version of the BA from better sources and has patched out the sounds, so my batch release will fix the issue.
Please seed <3
Thanks for this god tier release. seeeeeeeeed for meh pleaseeee.
@IKaos No Worries and I see that makes sense. Thank you for your hard work btw I look forward to the batch release. Have a nice day!
Thanks for the great release trying to nab these and the level sets.
First of all, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this collection, as you helped me revisit my childhood and saved me from doing the massive amount of work necessary to bring all of these audio sources together to the Dragon Box video. Out of respect for this collection I have begun making a torrent box as I intend to seed this whenever I can for as long as I can. On top of this in order to get this collection even closer to perfection I will be taking note of the issues I come across in each season's respective comment section. In your Ocean/Funi dub there is overlapping audio on S01E07 starting at both 12:50 and 22:07, almost as if the Ocean and Funi dubs are playing at the same time and it makes both nearly incomprehensible. A shame in an otherwise perfect presentation so I wanted to bring it fourth. Thanks again iKaos..!!
hey I recently bought those dragon box single dvds starting with vol 1 I was wondering if you could tell me how you rip dvds and how to get the audio and subtitles off the orange bricks cuz I wanna try to make my own rip of the show
