Cardcaptor Sakura Video Tracks : X.265 Video Source : ReinForce Audio Tracks : AAC [Jpn] Resolution : 1440X1080 Subtitle : English Subtitles Source : ReinForce Chapters : Yes NCOP/NCED: X.265/Flac Movie Video Tracks : X.265 Video Source : ReinForce Audio Tracks : AAC [Jpn] Resolution : 1080P Subtitle : English Chapters : Yes I started creating my own encode for a few reason and decided to share it for others that might like the same thing I do. --I like to have good visual and audio quality and still save on hard drive space so I choose to encode in X.265/H.265/HEVC --I will wait for BD version to come out and I will never upscale video files --I will encode audio with AAC VBR Max quality or leave as is if the source isnt a flac --I will only add English sub but feel free to add the one you need --All my release will have chapters for ease of navigation --If my release as an NCOP/NCED file i will encode as usual with X.265 but leave the audio as flac if the source was. I have tested different level of compression on different video and as far as I can tell my encode as little visual difference from the original.(This time you will see a difference but I tend to think it's a positive one.) Warning: In every source I could find I noticed that in many scene the picture had the shake(my guess is that the remaster BD is the same). While removing some of the shaking I had to cut/crop ~14px on all side(that's a 1.047% pixel lost). You have been warned, it is not all gone but it is smoother and I believe the animation is much more enjoyable now. Enjoy! ps: I have kept the original source in the track name as a thanks for the work they have done! So not only is it just a reencode of someone elses raws, which is a bad idea since reencoding x264 to x265 loses quite a bit of quality, but you've also needlessly cropped the image. Why.
plz read the description Warning: In every source I could find I noticed that in many scene the picture had the shake(my guess is that the remaster BD is the same). While removing some of the shaking I had to cut/crop ~14px on all side(that’s a 1.047% pixel lost). You have been warned, it is not all gone but it is smoother and I believe the animation is much more enjoyable now. That would be the why it has been cropped. There are other version out there if that bother you, but I do think you should at least check it before giving a negative feedback. Also any kind of compression losses quality the question becomes what file size/quality are you looking for. (personal opinion I prefer when anime are not grainy like the original was)
If you wanted to save on HDD space you should be encoding from source. You could use a lower bit-rate (and thus get a smaller file-size) and it would still look better than this because it was encoded from source. This release should be put under the remake category because it's a shitty re-encode. But even for a re-encode the quality is shit. Just look at the comparisons, even though they're lossy jpg's and you should be using PNG's it's extremely apparent. it looks like shit quite frankly. And you didn't even re-encode from a good source, why even pick reinforce to re-encode from? If you are incapable from encoding from the source BDMV for some reason you could've at-least encoded from beatrice encode or something actually good. But even then, encoding from anything that's not source really defeats the purpose unless the only available encodes have major issues and the source is unobtainable. Overall, this is pointless. And clearly your encode settings are shit, as even most re-encodes don't look this bad it looks awful, just look at the dark areas and how blocky it is. Also that's not how you do stabilization.
Please mark remakes as reencodes. I've done this now for you.
Some harsh criticism for sure. And obviously if I had anything from source I would use that. I personally like the compressed version more than the original look but everyone has their opinion on quality and that's not a problem. Sorry about the tag I will make sure it's there in the future. I have done that work for myself then shared. If I find out that truly ppl think I'm doing a "shitty" job the solution is simple I will just keep them for myself less trouble for me. But I will wait till ppl actually had time to check out the video before making any decision.
People comment so quickly without watching it first. Keep complaining about sakura even though they have no plans to watch it. ? I just finished clear card and will compare tomorrow morning. Really looking forward to it!
I compared it to project gxs sakura, it is equally good. But nothing is close to that 4K Blu-ray Remaster by kuchikirukia. I watched an episode and could tell the difference immediately. ✅
Why even do it for yourself? The kuchikirukia release looks far superior and is only ~20gb bigger https://nyaa.si/view/1020426. If that's still too big, go with a 720p encode like the (albeit shitty) OHYS-RAWS release https://nyaa.si/view/963504. Ohys tends to not be that great, and it's only 720 for a show that really deserves 1080, but it will still look better than this most-likely. "I personally like the compressed version more than the original look" This is probably the stupidest comment I've ever read online. Compression artifacts like blocking make the video look better? Why don't you go encode it at 360p and use a ridiculously low bitrate then? Because that would make it look even better to you right? The job of an encoder is to make it look as close to the source material as possible, aside from fixing issues with the source. If you want it to look "sharper" then increase the sharpness in your media player. If you want it to look softer, or whatever there's filters for that too in many players. [CONTINUED IN NEXT POST]
It looks like you just ran the video through some horrible handbrake preset. Everyone should at least learn the basics of encoding if they want to contribute otherwise it's just bloating this website with even more shit releases no one needs. And sure you can see me as being an asshole, but it's better to be an asshole then let someone waste hours of their life doing something poorly. If you do actually want to learn, start by obtaining the sources for anything you want to encode, and then get a proper encoding environment set-up https://guide.encode.moe/encoding/preparation.html you will need a ton of plugins as well, as time goes on. That guide is still very barebones, so there is these as-well http://www.l33tmeatwad.com/vapoursynth101/software-setup https://iamscum.wordpress.com/_test1/_test3/ . But, honestly there is no easy to follow guide for this kind of thing that will explain everything. You'll need to talk with other encoders and do a lot of learning by reading, there's a big barrier to becoming a good encoder, and it won't happen quickly. You can avoid a lot of the learning curve by just sticking with Blu-Ray releases of newer shows as they will have less issues (usually) that require filtering/fixing. But there's still a LOT to learn. You'll have to be prepared to do a lot of reading and a lot of comparing different settings as well as knowing some python. Honestly encoding is probably the worst thing to do if you don't know much and have a hard time learning. It's not easy to get into, and even after doing it for years you'll still be learning things constantly. This is why I'd recommend most people who aren't dedicated and don't have free-time to just stay away from it and let the big boy's do it. You can always make useful releases without encoding, though. Simply retiming subtitles to better quality video, or OCR/Transcribing subtitles from hardsubs are both things that aren't very difficult but require time.
@Hifumi_l I'm half-way through watching sakura actually, why are you projecting when you have no clue what I have or haven't done? And why does anyone need to be interested in watching a show in order to criticize an encode, that's beyond retarded. The awful quality is clearly visible by taking one glance at the comparisons in the description. Just look at the lineart or how blocky it is in the 2nd comparison in the dark areas. It's clear as day.
What i meant by my comment is that i find the soft look as long as it doesn't get blurry to look better than a grainy picture. I am in no way saying it's closer to the original blue-ray release. And since you seem at least to care. I use a stabilizing software and true i didn't do it the perfect way, it would have taken me months to actually do it in the way that i think you would be satisfy with. I did use handbrake and tested different preset till i was satisfy with the final look. Then i added the sub and chapters with mkv tools. I know and I see what you mean with the blocky part visible in the dark area but the movie was a lot lower quality than the anime and don't you find sakura's face to look better on that same frame. I had to choose between a softer look and some blocky area or grainy picture but only for the movie, the anime doesn't have that problem. I have actually read about VapourSynth a few weeks back, looks really professional but i just don't see or feel the need for it. I just don't understand what it actually add that is so needed?
Lol, that was so worth the time to check it. I didn't realized how much of an insult it was that you would say my release is probably worst than ohys-raw 720p. It's not even the 4k remaster it looks old and very blury even the color are bad. I strongly advise anyone to make the comparison it's really worth the laugh. Now i'm back to a good mood thanks for that MetalicBox.
Some users here think they are expert and everyone should listen to them because they are right. ?
Right, this release is so good that you completely forgot to attach the fonts, after you took the subs from another release, so people without the fonts will have their players default fonts. And you didn't stabilize the video properly, so it has black bars on every axis (this should never happen, you need to crop the pixels out, which will further decrease size and help the encoder be a bit more efficient). Oh and also you re-encoded from someone else's video instead of encoding from the source. And I didn't realize OHYS was not from the 4k remaster, I was just trying to make a point that a 720p encode could probably look better than this re-encode which is why I said "probably". It wouldn't be that hard because this encode has bad settings (just look at the comparison in the OP, look at the line-art and dark areas of the screen and colors). And a 720p encode that was stabilized properly would especially look good because after cropping you'd be able to scale it down to 720, which would bridge the gap a bit in terms of comparing it to a cropped 1080 release.
