![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/V0PaNc9.png "Dragon Ball Kai Recut") A complete re-edit of *Dragon Ball Kai* (itself a re-edit of *Dragon Ball Z*), this recut aims to remove as much of the remaining filler as possible that is still present in *Kai* in order to follow the original *Dragon Ball* manga as closely as possible. Episode lengths vary due to the nature of the editing process. See [here](https://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=34866&p=1595767#p1595767) for more info about this batch of episodes. **Video:** 1080p **Audio:** English, Japanese **Score:** Kenji Yamamoto (English, Japanese 047-080), Shunsuke Kikuchi (Japanese 081-082) **Subtitles:** English **Total Amount of Footage Cut:** * Not including the OP, ED, NEP, and Recaps for episodes that were combined into one, the original *Kai* run-time for these episodes (55 to 98) is 16 hours, 25 minutes and 8 seconds. * This recut of these episodes clocks in at 13 hours, 56 minutes and 33 seconds total. * That leaves us with a grand total of **2 hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds** worth of actual show footage cut from these episodes, all of which was filler in one way or another. **Related Links:** [**Dragon Ball Recut**](https://nyaa.si/view/832044) (Similar project for the original *Dragon Ball* series) [**Dragon Ball Kai Recut: Episodes 001 to 047**](https://nyaa.si/view/1118258) [**Dragon Ball Kai Recut: Episodes 083 to 122 (Majin Boo Arc)**](https://nyaa.si/view/1719302)

Milkman the GOAT! Super duper thanks!
will you be doing the buu arc
Our Hero Returns! The Milk Man Found
Praise the Milkman!!
Saw your reply to my post in the previous upload, what footage do you plan to use for Boo Saga now that Toei and Funimation fucked all our 30th Anniversary hopes sideways? The 16:9 Kai version or Dragon Boxes with Kai audio spliced in? If the former, please use the Japanese Blurays as source because they have improved OP/EDs animation and various color corrections and music placement fixes compared to the International Cut, also no matter which one you use you'll need to de-green it since the entire Boo Kai is covered in green tint for both International and JP releases.
Is there any chance of anyone making this for Dragon Ball Z?
Milkman said he plans to do Z Recut after doing Kai so just wait patiently.

Both. There'll be two versions, a 16:9 and a 4:3. For the 16:9 version, I'll be using a combination of the Japanese and International footage. Which color corrections do you mean? Are there more corrections than Boo's red eyes?
I see, so 4:3 will be Dragon Box and 16:9 will be Kai Blurays, right? Any reason why you're going to use footage at all from the international Kai? Is there some benefit to it I'm not familiar with? And you still haven't answered if you're going to color correct the green tint present in the Boo Saga Kai, I really hope you will. As for the correctotions, yes, they also color corrected his tongue to green as it should be though unfortunately not in all frames. And (damn that's a lot of sentences starting with "A") this brings me to I hope last question, do you intend to keep the extended fight scenes such as Majin Vegeta vs SS2 Goku, Vegetto vs Gohan Absorbed Super Boo and SS2 Goku vs Pure Boo? I know they are technically filler but a lot of people enjoy those extended fight scenes, especially the first and last of the ones I mentioned due to their beautiful choreography and good animation. Majin Vegeta vs SS2 Goku being only a total of like 5 pages in the manga was frankly insulting.
But seeing as you already removed plenty of great extended fight scenes, I assume you will destroy those too, which is unfortunate.

>I see, so 4:3 will be Dragon Box and 16:9 will be Kai Blurays, right? Correct. >Any reason why you’re going to use footage at all from the international Kai? Is there some benefit to it I’m not familiar with? While the international version retains more filler sequences and sometimes episodes, it also allows canon scenes more room to breathe than the Japanese version, at least in the episodes that aren't identical to each other. For example, the first episode or two of Japanese Boo Kai tries to cram way too much into a single episode, and the cuts are far too quick, making everything move at an unnatural pace. The international version is better for those bits. Also, they applied what looks like a sharpening filter to the Japanese episodes which isn't present on the international version, but that's being nit picky. >And you still haven’t answered if you’re going to color correct the green tint present in the Boo Saga Kai, I really hope you will. To be fair, you never actually asked me if I would or not, you just told me that it's something I'll need to do, which I agree with. It shouldn't be difficult to remove. >As for the correctotions, yes, they also color corrected his tongue to green as it should be though unfortunately not in all frames. That is good to know and something that I will have to keep an eye out for so that I make sure I use the correct footage.

I had a feeling I would get comments like this, so I will copy and paste exactly what I said in the Kanzenshuu thread where I discuss these edits: >**DISCLAIMER:** I get the feeling that, unlike the original Dragon Ball Recut, fans are going to be far more critical of the cuts I make in Kai and Z because, as a whole, people are much more familiar with and attached to the Z material and, by extension, a lot of its filler. Please keep in mind, though, that my main objective with these edits is to **mirror the manga as closely as possible**, so try not to get upset when I cut out your favorite bits of filler or change a sequence of events in order to more closely follow the manga, as that is the *entire point* of this project. If that tends to bother you, then perhaps these re-edits aren't for you. It's really a case-by-case basis, and the Majin Vegeta vs. Goku filler in particular I may end up keeping a bit of for pacing reasons alone. I'll see what happens when I get to it, but that one may end up staying. There are a number of reasons why I'm unable to remove filler sometimes. Typically, though, I'm happy to be rid of extended fight filler because it usually largely consists of two characters rapidly punching each other in a cheaply animated, poorly choreographed, and uninspired fashion.
seed please because it's very slow :)
Thank your for your answers and good to know you're going to try and attempt to remove the green tint, I apologize if I didn't explicitly indicate that it was a question on my part as I am not a native English speaker and just assumed it was obvious enough from the context. And yeah I forgot about the sharpening in JP run of Boo Kai, that might warrant using international footage for those bits.
I find your comment regarding those particular fights I listed as "cheaply animated, poorly choreographed, and uninspired" to be frankly a bit blind so to speak because those are among the best if not the best choreographed and animated bits of animation in DBZ after that one Perfect Cell vs Goku fight during Cell Games, but whatever, it's your edit and your choice. I want it less for myself and more for just introducing some people I know into the series that can't be bothered with the original material due to sheer amount of filler and massive amount of episodes. I do however wish you didn't keep removing extra fight material especially when it's well animated. For example you removed a bit of the Piccolo vs 2nd Form Freeza over the water which had rather nicely animated water backdrop and fluid animation for Piccolo's arm stretch which I genuinely do not understand why you removed. Especially because a scene explicitly shows him falling in the water and then it just cuts to him somehow falling into the ground (a VERY rough and obvious cut on your part). That rough cut could've been avoided if you didn't needlessly remove a decent bit of animation. I could list more instances like this where I just feel you're being overzealous in your cuts to the detriment of the original work. That's not to say I don't agree with all your choices of cuts, as I'm not fond of the "powering up screaming for half episode" with Trunks for example which was a good thing to cut. But cutting decently or even well animated material to the point that the cut is very obvious and jarring is frankly poor form on your part and I hope you will reconsider some of these in the future, if only for the sake of the viewing material being less obviously cut to the viewer (even my friend who is watching it for the first time noticed the Piccolo bit I mentioned above).

You misinterpreted my words, I was in no way referring to the fights you listed. What I meant by my comment is that, *generally speaking*, the filler material I've encountered so far within any given fight scene has often been poorly done. Not all of it, but a lot of it. Again, I was not referring to the fights you mentioned at all. In fact, I'm honestly not familiar with how well those particular fights are animated because I haven't taken a look at them yet. I'm sorry for not being clearer on that. >For example you removed a bit of the Piccolo vs 2nd Form Freeza over the water which had rather nicely animated water backdrop and fluid animation for Piccolo’s arm stretch which I genuinely do not understand why you removed. The short answer is that it wasn't in the manga and was easy to remove. Given the very nature of this project, I don't think I need to justify it much more beyond that. There's probably a longer answer that involves pacing and said filler making it seem like second-form Freeza was more of a challenge for Piccolo than he really was, but again, the main reason is that it simply wasn't in the manga.

>Especially because a scene explicitly shows him falling in the water and then it just cuts to him somehow falling into the ground (a VERY rough and obvious cut on your part). That rough cut could’ve been avoided if you didn’t needlessly remove a decent bit of animation. I made *no* such cut. I didn't change a single thing about that sequence of events, it remains exactly as it is in Kai. Matter of fact, the cut you're referring to is *also* exactly the same in Dragon Ball ***Z***, so even Kai isn't to blame here. While I understand why you might think it was my doing, please try to double-check before accusing me of making rough cuts that I didn't actually make. >I could list more instances like this where I just feel you’re being overzealous in your cuts to the detriment of the original work. Please do, I'd kind of like to be able to defend myself in the event that there are more instances like the one above. I think people would be surprised to find how often even the original anime made some questionable choices when it came to things like that. Rest assured, I *always* try to make my edits as smooth and unnoticeable to the viewer as possible. And, as we have established, the Piccolo bit was not my fault (please tell your friend that, haha).
Thanks for these recuts! I've rewatched your recut of the original Dragon Ball multiple times, and it's my preferred version to watch now. About the only thing I'm missing is that your recut of Kai doesn't seem to include chapters? Any plans on ever adding those in? And will your recut of Z include them? I'm actually looking forward to your recut of Z a lot more as a version with that classic music, but better dubbed dialog would be fantastic. Up until your recuts of Kai, I actually hadn't watched it before. This seems like the best way to get into the Kai version. Thanks again for these, and all your hard work!

But mate, I did compare it to Kai just yesterday, and you did in fact cut that spot. As I am at work now I can't give you exact timeframes, but as soon as I come back I will give you exact episode and exact timeframes for the scene in question so now you are jumping to conclusions and accusing me of lying where there are none for I am merely stating the truth. Your defense is blatant lie and I really hope it's a lie made out of forgetfulness and not straight up malice.

I didn't and still don't deny that I cut out a bit of the Piccolo and Freeza fight, but the edit I made had nothing to do with the "rough cut" of Piccolo falling into the ground that you're referring to. As proof, [here is that very same cut in Dragon Ball Z](https://youtu.be/8C7WdHzML2M?t=14m30s). You keep misinterpreting my words. You said English isn't your first language, and maybe that has something to do with it, but please try to pay closer attention to what I'm actually saying. I never accused you of lying, I just think you made an honest mistake, that's all.

Oh wow, I honestly didn't think anyone cared about the chapters, so I didn't bother including them this time around because they're kind of a pain to add. But since I see there *is* interest, I'll make an effort to add those in to the existing episodes and include them in the future. Sorry about that. And thanks for checking out my recuts! I'm glad you've enjoyed the original so much!

Sorry, I try to seed as much as I can, but sometimes I need to give my computer a break. Please seed when you can, everyone!
OMG, I DIDN'T SEE THIS TILL TODAY I NEED TO DOWNLOAD THIS SOON!!! Loved your work with Dragon Ball recut and I can't wait for you to finish up with Kai recut! Wondering how you will tackle the Buu Saga though since the video and audio side of that have some...issues...to say lightly.

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the original so much! I didn't think you'd be so willing to just do it even though you originally didn't have plans to; thank you so much! Mainly I was just inquiring to find out if you would, and if not, what your reasoning for doing so was. Afterall, I respect the decisions you make with this project and do not mean to impose my will on you. Good luck with the rest of the project, and I look forward to the releases when they come out. Thanks again!
thank you very much again :)
Thanks WhereIsTheMilkman! Incidentally I just finished watching the Garlic Jr saga from Z and I had an interesting idea. While it is pure filler and doesn't really work in the series, I think it would work better if it was recut to a leaner 60 minute standalone movie version, say as a sequel to the dead zone. Figured I'd throw that idea out there since its sure to be cut from any Z recut you may decide to do.
Hello, Thanks for your hard work, these projects are amazing for DB fans!Seeing as this one as well as the Saiyan-Freeza arcs are impossible to download,is there a way to upload them to another site?Who knows I might get lucky and someone actually seeds...Anyway,thanks for your work again, just finished the DB Recut.
If I may ask: Are you currently working the Z Recut or on the Buu Kai Recut?
Have you ever thought about including Toriyama's anime scenes? Or is it too early question? :) The Dragon Ball Z Anime Special guide mentions that Toriyama had quite a hand in these various adventures. First, he submitted a memo giving a general idea for the Snake Princess episode, although this memo only talked about a single giant snake living in the castle along the road. The beautiful Snake Princess and her servants were apparently the anime staff’s idea. Of course, in the episode they actually turned out to have been illusions created by the giant serpent. Second, the Dragon Ball Z Anime Special also noted that the episode where Goku accidentally falls down to Hell is also “full of Akira Toriyama-sensei‘s ideas!!” https://www.kanzenshuu.com/production/toriyama/
With the Dragon Ball Broadcast Audio now available over at https://nyaa.si/view/1229748 is there any chance you can update this project with it?
Hello MilkMan, this is the only way I can manage to ask you a question as the dbz forum where I originally saw the db kai post won't accept new registers to it, but my question is are you working on the Buu saga next? And will super be after? Thank you for the edits dude.
So I've never watched Dragon Ball. If I watch those recuts should I watch Dragon Ball Kai (2014) after this? This cuts entire original DBZ Kai right?
@Grahf Nah, this covers the Cell Arc. Milkman is currently working on the Buu Arc Kai Recut.
This is amazing. I hope the Buu arc comes out this year if that's true! ^
Hey man! Just wanna say thank you for everything you've done for the community. I really do appreciate you and what you are doing. Huge thanks!!!! and Buu arc please!
Waiting for Buu Arc
This project is dead. Someone else will have to make a Buu recut (and a DBZ recut).
