Can’t Stop Dreaming
Everything PPP-Raw releases is from laserdisc source. At the time of ripping, no DVD or Bluray souce is known to exist.
I took a look at the LD cover for this, and my first reaction was, “Is this an episode of Cream Lemon that I missed somehow? But no, there’s no Pony Canyon logo on it...” So then I popped it in and took a look. “Wait, are we sure this isn’t Cream Lemon...? I think this may be Cream Lemon.” It isn’t Cream Lemon – it doesn’t even share any staff, I checked.
I would describe this as high school romance, with an unusual twist that, while it would be plausible in 1987, would be difficult by 1997 and utterly impossible by 2007, all thanks to the internet. The pacing is a little on the slow side, but I didn’t mind that. You might, though.
Oh, and the girl on the LD jacket? Nowhere to be found anywhere in the show itself. Also on the LD jacket are the words, in English, “A Yumi Shirakura Film”. “Huh,” I think to myself. “Is this a name I should know? I kinda liked this one, I wonder what else this Yumi Shirakura made?” The answer appears to be: Nothing. This LD jacket is full of lies and false promises!
This disc was much darker than other discs I’ve recently worked with. I had mostly discarded the gain settings on my calibrated color correction approach, but had to revist them for this one. I went with 20 points below the official calibrated setting, which looks pretty reasonable – until you get to the bonus preview at the end, which came from VHS source, and the gain setting blasts it. I decided not to worry about that too much though. But if it worries you, unfiltered high bitrate DVD conversion is included for archival purposes.
