THIS IS VERSION 2 (all episodes patched up to date and fixed) of my 10 bit HEVC / x265 reencode of [deanzel's](https://nyaa.si/?f=0&c=0_0&q=deanzel "deanzel's uploads") 38.5 gb release of Steins;Gate and its OVA, using all of the latest patched and fixed episodes he released after uploading the initial torrent. I decided to keep the Commie modified subs in his upload rather than the Steins;sub ones, simply because I prefer the typesetting on commie subs. All audio is encoded to AC3 and English audio and signs/song for dub subtitle track are default. Here are some comparison shots of my encode vs [deanzel's encode ](https://nyaa.si/view/654349 "deanzel's encode") Obviously there are some reductions in visual quality compared to the original in all my uploads, these screenshots should help you decide whether the reduction in quality is worth my far lower file sizes. Huge thanks to deanzel for uploading such a high quality original version! ### Synopsis The self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarou Okabe rents out a room in a rickety old building in Akihabara, where he indulges himself in his hobby of inventing prospective "future gadgets" with fellow lab members: Mayuri Shiina, his air-headed childhood friend, and Hashida Itaru, a perverted hacker nicknamed "Daru." The three pass the time by tinkering with their most promising contraption yet, a machine dubbed the "Phone Microwave," which performs the strange function of morphing bananas into piles of green gel. Though miraculous in itself, the phenomenon doesn't provide anything concrete in Okabe's search for a scientific breakthrough; that is, until the lab members are spurred into action by a string of mysterious happenings before stumbling upon an unexpected success—the Phone Microwave can send emails to the past, altering the flow of history. Adapted from the critically acclaimed visual novel by 5pb. and Nitroplus, Steins;Gate takes Okabe through the depths of scientific theory and practicality. Forced across the diverging threads of past and present, Okabe must shoulder the burdens that come with holding the key to the realm of time. ### File details Video: 1920x1080 24 fps HEVC Main 10 Audio: English; AC3 Stereo ~192 kbit/s Japanese; AC3 Stereo ~192 kbit/s Subtitles: English; ASS subtitles Signs/Song for Dub; ASS subtitles

This release no longer meets as high a standard in motion as I would like my releases to meet, despite looking good in most still shots, so I might reencode this show with a larger file size at some point (mostly because I love this show). I have combined the previously patched episodes with the original release and will no longer be seeding the original release or the standalone patched episodes. Until I reencode this entire show, download this release, but as I said, it is not up to my more recent standards.
Hello Reaktor, thanks for the release. By any chance do you plan to release Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - Diamond is unbreakable? I have your encodes for all of the other seasons but I'm only missing that one. I love your work! Do you have any discord or a page I can follow your releases other than nyaa?
So... why bother with 1080p for this if your aim (I assume) is to get lower sized files? The native resolution for Steins;Gate is 720p.

@Scyrous This is a direct reupload of my previous release of Steins;Gate, but I've added in the files that needed to be replaced manually with fixed ones before, so I no longer have to seed the fixed episodes and show individually. This is in no way improved over what I had already posted, I just wanted to make it one cohesive release rather than having to download individual bits separately. I have no defense or reason for how I did anything in this release other than that's what I thought would be best at the time. I prefer to use as high a resolution as I can, especially if the show has been upscaled carefully in a way that (to me) looks like true 1080p, so I'd rather use that and have a clean image than the filesize savings. I've shifted my focus from creating purely small releases to wanting to become more of an archival uploader, especially for older/less popular shows, with balanced quality/filesize. I aim for ~300-600mb per episode in my newer releases, going as low as possible while maintaining as close to original quality as possible. For this reason, I will probably redo this release at some point with far higher quality and less artifacting.

@devxstated I am planning to release Diamond is Unbreakable, but I can't say how soon. I am working on the Space Adventure Cobra TV show right now.
Okay, amazing to hear thank you! :)
What do you think about your FMA encode? Does it meet high standard in motion? If not, would you consider re-encoding from the bluray source? If the answer is yes, pls do aac audio.

I am happy with my Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood encode for now. Looking at some action scenes frame by frame, there is some degradation in quality on very dark or fast moving objects, but as a normal viewing experience I think it looks good. I think my fma release has a good quality/filesize payoff to where I will not redo it in the foreseeable future. As a standard, I allow for slightly larger filesizes for movies and old (80s-90s) shows, as the grain in these shows is part of the character, and movies are more of a big-screen experience in my eyes, where I want each frame to look as good as possible. For newer tv shows, I view their consumption as more of a "fun" viewing experience, where I accept slight visual imperfections if they are minute enough that a it is unnoticeable on a normal watch-through of the show (this is why I want to redo Steins;Gate, as watching the show normally still shows artifacting, whereas you would have to pause my fma release in very dark or fast moving scenes to see anything out of place). Of course, my overall intent is still to maximise quality/filesize as much as I can.

@kingff2 to follow up, I started out using AAC at the very beginning, but Handbrake's AAC encoder (at least at the time) was completely broken and resulted in bad audio artifacts. Since then, I haven't really looked into using AAC, though I could rip the audio and encode it separately using some other tool. (iTunes/foobar?) I am not planning on doing this for anything I've already released though, so the only time I might do it for fma is if I decide to redo the whole show, which - as I've said, I'm not planning on doing anytime soon.
Reaktor, have you considered using a filter to sharpen the images? Currently madVR has no support for upscaling x265 files. Regardless, thanks for your hard work

User
@LightningSoul are you sure? I'm using madvr and upscaling seems to work fine? I have thought about it, but there are people who are so much better at using avisynth etc. to do that kind of stuff that it's really intimidating. I might look into it though. https://extraimage.net/images/2019/01/19/cb131a2931f78e18a34d0060781ca308.jpg (My release of Legend of the Galactic Heroes at 720p says it's being upscaled ^)
