hmmmm, based on the description ... and the reference in the description to "Hayabusa fighters", and the looks of the rotary engine plane ... why do I get the strong impression that this is nothing more than a fictionalized account of the WW2 Japanese fighter pilots, only in this anime they use women as pilots, which never happened in real life back then any bets that the enemy fighters look a lot like old WW2 American and British fighter planes I'll pass on this one

Because doing CGI for characters with little screentime is more costly than doing 2D. Every full CG anime uses 2D for characters with little screentime.
