Yeah I think it's dumb too but unlike ha vs wa where it's actually pronounced wa but written using ha because japanese, wotaku is spelled differently than otaku because it is an actual different word (granted an internet slang word).

Idk if they're pronounced the same way but even if they are, the words are definitely different, so you can write "Wo" and read it "O". What's the difference? And i dont think i know japanese, i just look up the things that i dont know, instead of bitching about my opinion.
