Land of The Lustrous is a Japanese 3D anime with unique visual style but unfortunately goddamn bad image quality. The whole anime is made up of low-resolution materials and upscaled to 1080p with lanczos, which caused star-burst-aliasing everywhere and some ringring. Unbelievably some rays are even broken into pieces as if Energy Discontinuity showed up at macro level. Maybe there is a doctor of Quantum Physics hiding among the anime staff. It’s hard to control the bitrate due to rich textures in the background and heavy YUV-grains, but we finally made it. And we fixed all artifacts, kept most grains and slightly sharpened the image in order to make it look like 1080p.
pre-processing: anti-star-burst-aliasing, de-banding, de-awful-ringring, luma-adaptive de-grain, texture enhancement.
