https://shiteatersubs2.wordpress.com Dougo13 has graciously allowed us access to his amazing collection of Japanese broadcast recordings, some of which haven’t seen the light of day in over 30 years! Today we have something very special, episode 001 of Dragon Ball! Captured from betamax in HiFi stereo and encoded by Dougo13 and shared with his permission. Dragon Ball episode 001: “Bulma and Son Goku” / “The Secret of the Dragon Balls” “Buruma to Son Gokū” (ブルマと孫悟空) Aired February 26, 1986. ... Hey guys! Dougo13 asked me to post a question here: “Can anyone tell me what the source of the old Kei17 files were? The Kei17 files, or at least the original series of Dragon Ball (1 – 7, and 153), thing is I’ve heard that they did not come from Beta Hifi tapes. Then, what was the source? Beta, VHS or 8mm?" If anyone has any info on where Kei17 sourced his files, and the original file specs, please leave us a comment. Thank you.

If anyone is willing to help by timing and transcribing an available translation for this episode, it is a great candidate for complete subtitling, commercials included. We would be very appreciative.
@shiteaterbubibinman : Thank you
This is indeed something very special. As always, thank you all so much.
I don't think this is in stereo as I cannot hear the stereo separation in the track. In my opinion, it's two-channel mono.
@ramsaso : As far as I know, DB & DBZ wasn't broadcasted in stereo but only mono, so yeah it's false stereo.
Thanks! @andiandi, waiting for your work ahaha
Everything seems to be working out. Only thing that has yet to be shared publicly are DB Movie 4, DBZ Movies 1-13 LaserDisc Japanese audio and then y'all can kinda call it the "Ultimate Edition" or the "Definitive Edition" without FUNimation's or Toei's blessings. FUNi's Japanese audio on the 4x3 DBZ Movie 13 (and DB Movie 4 - Old Single) to me sounds a lot clearer and better than the Dragon Box audio though others seem to disagree, which I respect.
"Then, what was the source? Beta, VHS or 8mm?" 8 mm impossible. The closest thing to quality in this recording is VHS, although I do not rule that it is Beta
Does anyone have a sample of the original Japanese Dragon Ball Z broadcast? I'm doing a color correction of the DVDBox and I need a sample of the original colors
I don't think this is the original broadcast. If it was, there wouldn't be a clock on the top-left corner of the screen.
