Thought we’d take the time here to explain how some of the yakuza terms you’ve been seeing work: “Bro” (aniki) is a term used by lower ranks to higher ranks (below officers, though), and all lower-ranked yakuza are referred to as “brothers” (little and big to denote relative rank). “Chief” (kashira, an abbreviation of “wakagashira”) is sometimes translated as “lieutenant” and refers to a high-ranked officer usually right below the boss (oyabun).
