### This torrent is obsolete, please go here for the new one: [1145615](https://nyaa.si/view/1145615) *** *These episodes are compiled from the following sources:* **Video:** 4x3 1080p Level Set Blu-Rays (1-34) and WEB-DLs from XBox Live (35-39) - *originally encoded by Grupa Mirai, I added custom NEPs from the Dragon Box and re-encoded in 10-bit color.* **Audio - 4 tracks:** 1. Japanese Mono Broadcast Audio - *as originally released by WinxBloom1980 (some episodes use the re-timed versions by Team Mirolo)* 2. English 2005 5.1 FUNimation "Ultimate Uncut" Dub w/Shunsuke Kikuchi score - *from the R1/US Dragon Box* 3. English 2005 2.0 FUNimation "Ultimate Uncut" Dub w/Nathan Johnson score - *from the Level Set ISOs and the "Season" Set Blu-Rays as released by DHD* 4. English 1996/7 2.0 Saban/Ocean Dub - *A re-creation of the original English dub, custom made by me, with gaps filled in with the FUNi/Kikuchi dub in an attempt to create a relatively seamless nostalgic viewing experience. Sourced from the "Rock The Dragon" DVD Set as provided by omar1st* *** **v2 Changes (Episodes 1-12, 30-39):** 1. Re-encoded video using the settings established with episode 7 (Episodes 1-6) 2. Updated the FUNi/Johnson track with AC3 audio from the Level Set ISOs (Episodes 1-12, 30, 31) 3. Upgraded the source of the Saban/Ocean dub to from WinxBloom1980 AAC to AC3 from the "Rock The Dragon" ISOs (Episodes 1-12) 4. Re-timed the FUNi/Kikuchi elements of the Saban/Ocean track. For some reason parts of this track are misaligned across early episodes (Episodes 1-12) 5. Upgraded the source of the "Rock The Dragon" theme for the Saban/Ocean dub to a HQ version provided by Deli295 (Episodes 1-6) 6. Re-timed a few elements of the Saban/Ocean dub (Episodes 1-12) 7. Re-named the files to use the Japanese episode names established with episode 13 (Episodes 1-12) 8. Changed the video source from their previous versions to Grupa Mirai. I was unhappy with my own encodes for 30-34. While they lack grain, I find this source to be the best trade-off between looks and file size. (Episodes 30-39) *Episodes 13-29 don't have v2s as they already contain the above, except for point 2. These episodes use the FUNi/Johnson track from the DHD "Season" sets. They are identical to the previously released episodes.* *** **Other Updates:** 1. I am still technically on hiatus but have been running tests with the R2J Dragon Box footage for episodes 40+. I anticipate a quicker pace once I pick this back up since I no longer have to deal with Blu-Ray footage. 2. I plan on completing the Ocean Dub track through episode 67, and from there I will replace the track with the original 1999 FUNi dub, in all of its nostalgic glory. Thanks to everyone here who provided feedback and support. [MediaInfo](https://pastebin.com/S5Bc7StQ)

wow thanks for all your hard work
Congrats for doing the first 39 eps of 291 in total. ?
@iKaos Thank you so much for this amazing release! One of the best I've ever seen! It's a masterpiece! I just have some minor important recommendations though. • Can you please make a Sign/Songs subtitle track for the dub track and have that as the deafault track? • Do you plan on doing DB, DBGT, Super, Heroes and all of the corresponding movies, OVAs and TV Specials in the future after you're done with Z? • Can you please use FLAC lossless audio for the BD tracks instead of the AC3 converted audio? Isn't that the best route to take in terms of audio quality? • For future releases can you please keep using .ass styled subs? • Can you please use home made and named chapters instead of the default sourced one you use? • Can you please review the NEPs English dub tracks by filling the silent gap of the remastered dub and redoing the Ocean one cause I think it has some issues?

@Yusei573 Thanks for the feedback. 1. I do not plan on adding a sign/song track at this time. The default sub track is for the JPN version as that's the default audio track. 2. The only thing I'll probably do aside from the Z TV series (and specials) is Movie 3 with a Saban/Ocean TV track. Pendekar has already recently released the rest of the movies for DB/Z with more audio tracks, broadcast JPN audio, etc. Pendekar is also working on DB, so I don't plan on going over that one. I have zero interest in GT. Super has tons of quality releases. 3. The only BD tracks that I have raw (meaning directly from the BD, not already converted by someone else) are the English tracks from the Level Sets. The Kikuchi track on the Level Set uses the Mark Menza opening theme instead of the original Japanese theme (a problem shared with every FUNi/Kikuchi track on every release except the US Dragon Box). I could have used the FLAC track for the Johnson track, but I honestly don't care too much about that track and it would add bloat. It sounds pretty good as is. Going forward none of the sources I have contain FLAC audio, so this point is moot anyway unless I re-release these episodes again. I might do it WAY down the road, who knows.

4. I plan on continuing to use .ass subs going forward. 5. I don't plan on doing custom chapter titles. I think anyone that watches this knows what the 5 chapters are in every episode. 6. I admit the tracks on the NEPs are all over the place in terms of quality. I'm actually surprised no one mentioned it on the previous releases. The JPN track is synced properly, the FUNi/Kikuchi track from the Dragon Box uses the JPN audio, but it's a little out of sync; the FUNi/Johnson track has nothing at all (since the UUEs, Orange Bricks, Level Sets and "Season" Sets don't have NEPs), and the Saban/Ocean track uses the JPN audio without dialogue, sometimes overdubbed with the Ocean track if it fits (about 1 in 5 episodes). Because I'm not actually touching the audio for any track except the Ocean one, I chose not to adjust each track for the NEPs, in order to preserve audio quality. I feel that they all "work", except the Johnson track... but that's a FUNi problem IMO.
Made an account just to share how awesome this torrent is! Thank you so much, I was looking for something as true to my childhood as possible and you've actually done it! Looking forward to the rest of the releases in the future!
Here is Dragon Box GT https://kametsu.com/topic/63542-ecio-dragon-ball-gt-dragon-box-gt-r2j-dvd-tri-audiow-japanese-broadcast-audio/?tab=comments#comment-614676
@iKaos Ah, buddy. Don't get worked up over making a 'perfect' version, this clearly is already taking you a lot of time as it is and you're doing it all for free. Those who download it appreciate it very much and it's an even better product than FUNimation has put out, overall. I'm still waiting for P-M Fansub to release all 271 episodes of Pocket Monsters subbed and I'm waiting patiently for years now. :P Those who want shit for free just gotta wait patiently (if I never get to watch all of it, I don't care but it'd be cool).

@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano lol yeah I'm good. Like I said when I started, these are really for me, I'm just sharing what I would have done anyway. I appreciate feedback but I'm not changing anything that doesn't bother me.
Wait, if you got your sources from Grupa Mirai for the whole series, which had 8 bit color depth, then there is no point in encoding it with 10 bit color depth.
Also, if I were you, I wouldn't need to re-encode it, I would just use mkvmerge and merge the Episodes and the NEP's together without loosing any quality.

iKaos (uploader)

User
A guy on my first torrent told me there was still some benefits to 10-bit over 8-bit. I'm not sure it matters at this point. Same deal with the merging as from now on the source already has the NEPs on it.
Alright then, also, why don't you use H265 for encoding this?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Demez I don't know, time? If I ever go back to these again (I still have all the raw Level Sets) maybe I'll do a full quality version with HEVC to bring the size down. I might try HEVC and H.264 for the next set. Most of my library for other stuff is HEVC but I've seen anime fans on here complain about it, so I didn't really think about it at the time. But then I also didn't know people would actually want the Nathan Johnson track in FLAC, so what do I know. Personally I think it's all bloat. I've acquired so many raw/iso versions of this show in preparation for the next phase that I could re-do this batch with even higher quality options. But that wouldn't be until I was done with everything else. So who knows how long that would be - I honestly wouldn't hold out for it. I'm running into massive syncing issues with the R2J so I have to think about if it's even worth my time to use that as a source or use the R1/US, which literally everything is already synced to.
Ive only done one test of this so far, but I tried doing an encode of a video on h264 slower preset vs h265 medium preset, and it took the same amount of time, and the H265 encode was smaller as well. But since ive only done that once, I don't know if it will be the same with everything. BTW, what raw/iso versions of this show do you have anyway? Because im trying to get as much Dragon Ball stuff as I can in its highest possible quality, and im kind of hoping you have something higher quality than some things that I have.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Demez I'll look into using HEVC with the new episodes. I have both the R2J and R1US Dragon Boxes, Level Sets for these episodes, and FLAC 2.0 English/Johnson/Faulconer for the entire series. The R2J I got from here, R1US from various places, Level Sets were posted in one of my older threads, and the English audio is from Kametsu. I can't find original isos for the singles (source of the 1999-2003 FUNi dub) so I'm still looking there. The torrent here is not seeded, although it was when I started this project. I know it came from ADC but I don't have an invite.
I managed to get the Funi Singles torrent a bit ago, and when i was converting it to mkv and encoding them i didnt keep the english dub, and I messed up a bit and ended up keeping the english dub title cards for one volume (I was keeping japanese title cards only), so I tried to redownload it as I was deleting the source file as I was going due to low space (My Dragon Ball Collection is currently 1.3TB because i need to sort a lot of stuff out and encode a bunch of stuff). Definitely regret that, as the singles footage has good colors on it. Could you send me a message or something if you end up finding an iso of it? Maybe on discord if you have a discord account? Also, those FLAC English Tracks with Johnson and Faulconer, do you think you could send me those, and possibly R1US Dragon Box with it? BTW, a tip for encoding Dragon Box, you should use HEVC medium preset with a crf of 12 at 640x480 (not 720x480 as you watch it in 640x480 anyway) to have as little quality loss as possible. Im currently doing this with the entire Dragon Box (even GT) (except original Dragon Ball, as this exists: https://nyaa.si/view/489801)
@demez >singles footage has good colors on it. I was under the impression that the colors on the singles footage was really bad and washed out. Also, is that funi singles torrent still working?
Currently, someone is seeding the torrrent right now, but only 0.126 of it is currently available, so im downloading that right now. And I also looked around on Kanzenshuu and did comparisons myself, and yes it does have good colors. (This is that torrent btw: https://nyaa.si/view/933629). If I can manage to download the whole thing, I guess I can seed it, maybe until I finish making MKVs of it.
@demez >yes it does have good colors are you sure about that? I remember doing comparisons myself before deciding to delete that pack and the colors were way off. I compared them to the jap dvd rip, dragonbox, and kai and I came to the conclusion that the singles have the worst colors by far.
What is this Jap DVD Rip? Also, the Dragon Box actually has the worst colors by far, due to film aging, though its the 2nd highest quality release, right behind the Level Sets with the highest quality, and the 2nd best colors. Kai probably has the best colors, but its not all of DBZ, so the singles has the best colors for the whole series. And I have also done comparisons myself to almost every release of Dragon Ball Z that I know of, and the Singles always had the better colors. There is even a fourm post on color correcting the Dragon Box: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19448 There is also a post asking which release has the most accurate colors, and its the singles: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37531 Also, here is a comparison of Dragon Box and FUNi's Singles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBYZrGHDJUA
@demez >What is this Jap DVD Rip? https://nyaa.si/view/291482 It's from the Japanese DVD and has the remastered fun dub on it as well >Kai probably has the best colors, but its not all of DBZ, so the singles has the best colors for the whole series. And I have also done comparisons myself to almost every release of Dragon Ball Z that I know of, and the Singles always had the better colors. Okay, so I did some comparisons myself and what I found was that while episode 1-53 has good colors, starting from ginyu assault single, the colors are very washed out. I've checked the frieza saga and the cell saga and after comparison, I have concluded the singles have the worst color by far. The difference is very noticable especially in the Cell saga. The colors on the singles from episode 1-53 seems more accurate than the dragonbox since it has a green tint, but after episode 53, the single's color goes to shit. edit: also, I've compared the colors again for 1-53 and it seems that the singles colors are very different from kai, dragonbox, the level sets, and the jap dvd rips. The colors are just darker.
The colors to me don't seem more washed out, and I fail to see how the Singles colors are worse than the Dragon Box Colors. Could you show me some comparisons of where you see the colors most washed out? Like in the Cell Saga? ive only done comparisons in the first few Volumes, so that might be why the Singles seem like the best in colors to me. Also, i just found that in one episode of FUNi Singles, they use the Dragon Box master in it and its the torrent on this site: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42147
@Demez Here's a comparison I made between one of the episodes between 1-53: https://imgur.com/a/mu9VotH It compares the single, dbox, kai, jap-dvd, and the level set. As you can see, the color from the funimation single is much darker than the rest. I'm not even sure if it's "better". I would say that the sky color may be more accurate than Dragonbox's green tinted one, but I can't say the same for everything else. Also, I looked at your link: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42147 and I found that the colors beginning from Ginyu Assault single are like the colors on the 3rd panel and that's from the Funimation single torrent i got from here (the one you're trying to download). And I would say those colors are very washed out. You say that you've ripped the episodes from that torrent, then I would invite you to compare the colors in the cell saga.
Yeah, I guess now I can see how the colors are not the best on the singles. Also, im still in the process of remuxing the R2J Dragon Box Torrent on this site using MakeMKV, and im only on episode 102 atm (and still working on it right now), so I can't do a comparison of the Cell Saga right now. But yeah the 3rd panel on the Kanzenshuu link I sent of FUNi using DBox master looks a bit too yellow, but on later episodes it doesn't seem that yellow (though I haven't compared them just yet so I can't really tell, and I only have up to episode 168 of the Singles sorted out, and then 4 more volumes left remuxed into MKVs up to Vol. 51) Even if it does have bad colors, I still want to add it to my collection, as im trying to collect almost everything Dragon Ball on my PC, its currently over 1TB so far because I need to sort a lot of stuff out and encode a bunch of things. EDIT: Also, that Jap DVD Rip just looks like a lower quality Dragon Box in that comparison.
@Demez well the Jap DVD ss in this case is an encoded rip and has a bit-rate of 1600's and the dragon box ss is directly from the source iso which has a bit-rate of 7k so I do expect it to look better. However, the colors on the Jap DVD are a little more true to the original broadcast color since the Dragon Box has a more greenish tint. This is more apparent when comparing blue/yellowish colors. edit: Also. we've only talked about colors at this point, but we also have to remember that the singles are zoomed in and crop out a decent chunk of the original broadcast whereas the Dragon Box fixes this and gives you a better crop.

User
@Demez I'm sitting on the same singles torrent as you. I don't need it for a few months so maybe someone will seed it eventually. My interest in it is only to get a better quality version of the 1999 FUNi dub track. While the Dragon Box colors are probably not the most accurate to the original film, they're by far the best quality of the show available outside of the level sets.
I wish I hadn't deleted my singles pack so I could have seeded it for you guys. I just assumed, given this franchise's dedicated fanbase, someone would always have it to share. I hope someone seeds it soon.
For the next release, as video source, will you use untouched dragon box, pre-existing encodes, or are you ecoding it yourself? Thanks for this great release btw :D

iKaos (uploader)

User
@ThePi7on I'm encoding myself from either the R1US or R2J Dragon Boxes. I'd rather use R2J but the syncing of all the tracks will be so much easier (and faster) for me if I use the R1US ones. I will retain as much detail and grain as possible.
Might just be me, but the FUNi/Kikuchi audio track in Episode 1 is ahead of the video by half a second or so, rest of the audio tracks seem to be fine. Haven't checked the other episodes. If it helps, around 7:35 in, the lip-syncing is slightly off, and the gunshot sound goes off before the gun actually fires.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Minmay hm, you're right. It's fixed if you add a 150ms delay in MKVToolNix. I'll upload a fixed audio file at some point. Spot checked a few other episodes and I didn't notice any problems.
@iKaos Gotta give you props on working so hard on what I'd say is a perfect release of DBZ so far. Definitely excited to see your work with 40+ since the only release of the Dragon Boxes I can find are the DBNL encode which aren't too great.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Minmay Yeah that's my goal. Every Dragon Box release I've seen has either super compressed video quality or poor/missing audio options.
Excellent, thank you very much!
Thanks for this! Please seed!
I just deleted the episodes 1-39 I already had, really hope I can download this
@iKaos Thanks for episodes 1-39. When its coming +40?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@thepunisher I'm always seeding, at least. @yatogam1 Probably next month. Still on hiatus - in the meantime I've been working on securing as many high quality sources as possible for audio tracks for the rest of the series. I'm all set up until 67 though so once I start back up there should be no delays until then.
I'm curious on something. The reason I hate the blurays and remasters so much is because, if you focus, you can see the picture moving ever so slightly but noticeable. Almost like the camera man has the shakes. In the Level Sets you barely see it. Once you see and notice it then its constantly there. My question is: will your upcoming releases have that?
Sorry to ask here, but does anyone have the original raws for 35-39? Because this torrent ( https://nyaa.si/view/1013602 ) is deaded than King Piccolo.
@renota1 I did upload the BD author I put together that the files came from for here to a cloud drive but I hadn't seen them put it up, don't remember who, so I don't know what happened there. I would have uploaded it myself but I can't open my port so I can't upload torrents myself.
How do the Level Sets compare with the Dragon Box in terms of video quality?
@DragoonClawNZ Thanks for your reply. I did remember seeing a MEGA link, perhaps on Kametsu (although maybe I'm wrong), but no luck so far. Well, if someone else has the original files and can upload it to a cloud service I'll be forever grateful.
This looks interesting! Good job on this release. If you throw in the Faulconer score, I think this would be the last last DBZ release I would download.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@ronin559 There's no official Faulconer Productions score for this part of the series. I know a fan version exists but it doesn't really work for me. It'll be naturally included for 67+ as the 2nd English track.

iKaos (uploader)

User
Bit of a delay on my end as my drive crashed and I lost all of my sources for 43+. Slowly getting them back. Next release should be in September.
did you ever get the funimation singles to rip the audio?

@boobychan Someone is seeding the torrent right now, but it's slow. I have lower quality copies of the 1999 FUNi dub but I'd really rather have the singles. I'm hoping it stays seeded.
What's your download speed and how much of it have you downloaded?
No one is fucking seeding the torrent. Can't download the fucking torrent if no one is seeding.

@dbzdrummond As I said above, I'm always seeding. If it's not being seeded then I might be having temporary internet issues. It would be nice if others could seed but it is what it is.
ikaos, what do you use to extract the audio from ISO's?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@boobychan I mount the ISOs, rip the episodes with MakeMKV and then use MKVToolNix to combine the audio files from all the different sources together once I've done my encode. To do the Saban/Ocean track I have to go another step and remux to mp4 and then I do the syncing manually in Premiere.
I see. Thanks. I'm probably going to extract all the audio with mkv extract once my download finishes and keep them just in case.
Hey ikaos, i ended up extracting everything I wanted from that singles pack after the download finished. It was pretty tedious so I figured I'd share with you and other people too so they don't have to go through the hassle like I did. I don't know if you still need this, but I'll leave my mega.nz link here for you and anyone else who needs it. The episode and recap audio is in the Episode audio folder, it's a little over 8gb. The audio for 67-68 starts somewhere in the middle of ep 67. Apparently there's no recap audio for ep 67 to ep 74 so you'll probably have to use audio from the Funimation blu-rays. Some of the audio files have 3 episodes combined. The subtitles for these are in a separate folder too. I also extracted the NEP's (in case you felt like syncing them) with both the video and audio, a few of them are the same as the japanese NEP, but most are different. Apparently Funimation only put 1 NEP per single. I also put the recap videos in another folder to help with syncing if needed. I also extracted the ED and OP, I took 1 ED and OP from each single cuz why not? Anyways, here's the link: https://mega.nz/#F!2fhg2KyY decryption key is !2VNJ3Et4Ia3Os8b26u73Pg If anyone wants to upload this as a torrent, feel free to do so.
If anybody out there can seed, please seed.

@boobychan I actually did manage to acquire the necessary singles (and I'm seeding as well for now). I will definitely check out your hard work extracting the audio, though. Thanks!
IKao @IKaos plz seed this torrent. thank you

@Lucifer I'm always seeding. Only reason it wouldn't be seeding is if I'm having temporary internet issues.
Hey iKaos, is the image cropped from either top or bottom? Cause it doesn't feel like 4:3. I could be wrong
@IKaos thx for seeding them. i downloaded all of them and they are amazing while they lack grain but im happy to have Level Sets. plz can you upload whole series with CC and funi faulconer dub with 4:3 format in atleast 720p?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@RealOtaku0 Nothing is cropped as far as I'm aware of. @LMS666 I'm not doing any CC but it seems like there are other people working on it. Faulconer only exists for 67+, anything else is just fan work. Only 1-39 is available in anything above 480p, like I said anything that's 4x3 720 or 1080 after that is just an upscale, which... why bother? Let your TV handle it.
thanks for this. i've been trying to DL the first 2-3 episodes and it's been going slow at like 2 kbps. do you happen to have these upped on another site like mega?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@wit6 I'm still seeding and my upload speed should be higher than that, it routinely goes up to 1 mbps if I'm not doing anything else. I don't have the storage for something like this on MEGA.
@iKaos Please Seed Or Upload In MEGA , DoUpload & UsersDrive (Have 190 GB Free Storage)

@Densetsu I am working on re-doing this batch with a better video source, updated broadcast audio, and adjustments to the Saban/Ocean track, so I will consider it for that release. I know these are on Usenet too since I've seen them on there.

@iKaos I just wanted to thank you for this upload. I didn't think I would ever get to watch the level sets in full and you also were kind enough to supply the original ocean dub (with edits!). I unfortunately am having trouble 'loading' the videos? I don't know why they wont play and I have almost all episodes downloaded 100% from the provided torrent. The torrent is currently 'Stalled' and I have 99.8% on Episode 1 - 99.7% on Episode 2. 99.8% on Episode 24. and 99.8% on Episode 29. Would you know why the video files will not play and these remaining episodes won't finish downloading? It says I am 99.9% done :( Edit: Sorry, I am new to the website and do not torrent very often (ever..) I really became obsessed with watching the highest quality dragonballz as its very nostalgic for me so I apologize if the above is a noob question.

@n12 I am still seeding as usual, and at this time there's at least one other seed, so I'm not sure what the issue is. You could try re-downloading those specific episodes. You could also change the extension on your partial downloads to ".mkv" (get rid of the ".part") and it should theoretically still work as well since it's so close to being done.
Cheers iKaos, this is an absolutely great release. Thank you for all the hard work you did putting this together. Hearing the clean Japanese broadcast audio with the amazing remastered level footage is like watching the show for the first time all over again! Extra points for including the Ocean dub for that quick hit of nostalgia! Massive shame it includes English title cards and was very jarring seeing them on the end of the NEPs but as the footage is sourced from the Level sets whatevs, beggars can't be choosers! Thanks for this great realease though, it is much appreciated, would love a version with JP titles and credits but this is still absolutely fantastic! Cheers bud!

User
@salvadorbastard Thank you. v3 of these episodes will have the Japanese title cards for the NEPs since it will be sourced from the Dragon Box, as well as upgraded Broadcast Audio. The cards at the beginning of the episode will still be in English as that's how it appears on the Level Sets.

@iKaos you mentioned you used encoded level set footage before. Can you direct me to where I can download the raw level set footage? I am looking to add it to my collection

@n12 Trunks9us posted Mega links in the comment thread for my upload of episodes 25-29 - but checking on them now only one or two of them still work.
