Part 1 (1-6): [#997320](https://nyaa.si/view/997320) Part 2 (7-12): [#1002398](https://nyaa.si/view/1002398) Part 3 (13-18): [#1009867](https://nyaa.si/view/1009867) **Updates for part 4:** 1. Episode 20 retains the insert song "Battle-Colored Warriors" on the FUNi/Kikuchi track. This song is not on the official release due to rights issues, but I mixed it back in. 2. After going back and forth on it for awhile, I decided to keep the Saban-isms on the Ocean track ("I can see their parachutes" etc). Got to take the good and the bad with this dub. Get ready for Bardock the brilliant scientist. *I’m currently creating what I consider to be a “perfect” version of DBZ by combining the best quality video with the most American English dub options available, for both nostalgic and completionist purposes. I figured I’d share what I’ve done so far with others. Most elements from this torrent come from other uploaders as mentioned below. This is a WIP - I can share more episodes once I complete them.* **Video:** English Level Set Blu-Rays - these Blu-Rays feature proper 4:3 aspect ratio and solid remastering, unlike the crappier season sets. Unfortunately this source stops at episode ~~34~~ 39, so if I continue past that point, I’ll switch to Dragon Boxes. (source: Grupa Mirai) **Audio - 4 tracks:** Japanese Mono Broadcast Audio (source: WinxBloom1980) English 5.1 2005 FUNimation Remastered Dub w/ Kikuchi score (source: my own Dragon Box) English 2.0 2005 FUNimation Remastered Dub w/ Nathan Johnson replacement score (source: DHD) English 2.0 1997 Saban/Ocean Dub (source: ISOs provided by omar1st with my own edits to sync*) Those of you familiar with the original Ocean Studios dub of DBZ know that it was rather heavily edited (the first 53 English episodes correspond to the first 67 original episodes), and so I have attempted to re-sync the audio to the best of my ability, filling in the gaps with the FUNi dub. This is what takes up the bulk of my time as it is a rather laborious process. Comments and feedback are welcome *Thanks to Deli295 for his HQ rip of the "Rock the Dragon" Theme. Appreciate your efforts to create an 'Uncut Ocean Dub' but I came to the realization that it kinda sucks. Most of it contains the FUNimation dub with the original Z (Japanese) music. The alternative would have been to use the original Japanese audio where the dub is missing as official distributors do but this is a fan-release so it differs. Anyway, I guess I prefer Ocean Dub the way it was released and nothing more.
Btw, the official name for 'BluRay' is Blu-ray Disc (BD) so you could use 'Bluray' since the 'Ray' isn't capitalized but that's up to you.

When I started this project I actually had no idea how chopped up the Ocean dub was. I was under the impression that most edits were taking out entire scenes, but as it turns out almost every scene is trimmed in some way, which can be jarring when reconstructed. I disagree that "most" of the track is FUNi/Kikuchi - the narration always is, because the Ocean narration is too short and often about different episodes, but most of the track is definitely Ocean (except for stuff like episode 9 where almost the entire episode was cut out). My goal is to create something watchable that flows from scene to scene, in English. I agree the music jumps is probably the biggest problem as the style between Kikuchi and Shuki Levy is completely different, but it is what it is. I actually don't find the voice changes that awkward compared to when I initially tried the Japanese track for the gaps. I feel that if someone wants the original "unedited" Ocean dub, they can find it easily here from other sources. Anyway at this point I've already done a third of that dub - so I'll probably see it through to the end for anyone that wants the track.
In regards to video quality, is there much difference between your upload and WinxBloom1980's 720p? BTW, I can't find that neat upload anymore.

@Romao It looks like theirs was encoded at CRF17 while mine is at CRF18, so their bitrate is a bit higher than mine, however mine are 10-bit. Visually I can't see any obvious difference, but that's me. 1080p does look a little better on my 65" TV than 720p. It looks like WinxBloom1980 removed their upload due to all the drama going on with the broadcast audio. I'm not involved with all that, I just want the best quality audio available, and to my ears, that's this version of the broadcast audio. So here we are.
@iKaos I have something coming up so don’t rush towards episodes 035-039 as you’re gonna want the ones I have. And about the WinxBloom1980 JPN BA, it sounds better than the Dragon Box muffled audio but it's still inferior to not-so compressed versions out there. I'm still plenty happy owning the WinxBloom1980 at the very least. :)

I probably won't get to those until late-April at the earliest, so I'll keep an eye out. I know there's theoretically better BA that exists - but we're never going to get it. I'm happy to have what we have because it really elevates the perceptive quality and nuance of the performances and music of the Japanese track. I have no false hope that we will ever hear anything better than this on an official release.
@iKaos, you are totally right. Are you planning to use the R2 Dragon Box for video source ater episode 39? I tried play the R2 video from https://nyaa.si/view/937283 with the WinxBloom1980's Broadcast Audio, but they are way out of sync. I don't know if thejeremymenace's Dragon Radar (http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34820) can help with the sync... I didn't manage to use it for this. Also, I have all the vob subs from the WinxBloom1980's source converted to .ass just like the Level's. Don't know an easy way to sync them with the R2 video source either.

Well my plan was to use the R2J Dragon Boxes... but that was dependent on ease of syncing. I'm basically doing this for fun and if it turns out I have to manually resync 40-291... well I don't know if that will be fun. I know of the Dragon Radar... I think it may work since it's designed to go from R1 to R2, and if WinXBloom is synced to R1... then it should do it? Suppose I'll find out when I get to it.
If you know python, you could adapt the Dragon Radar or avail it for your own script somehow. What it does is take the ripped VOB DVD files of both Dragon Boxes and work on them, and not by taking any .mkv, .aac and .ass files. But the time gaps are certainly on the script and maybe you could get them. Of course, if you have the R1 Dragon Box uncompressed with all the sharpness (and grain, consequently) retained, then it is worth use it as the video source. I actually don't know if there are so much difference in video quality between R1 and R2.
Made an account just to tell you how appreciative I am for these. I've been getting my SO into Dragon Ball Z and she loves it. These are perfect for that occasion since it compasses almost every version out there and I can show her how I saw it as a kid on Toonami (Ocean Dub) and what the remasters are. I hope you keep doing these, it really does save me from having to download all the different versions and I believe you're the only person undertaking the task of putting all this together and essentially you've made the Ocean Dub into Bluray quality. I honestly can't stress enough how much that means to me and saved me from spending over 100.00 on the rock the dragon box set. Hope to see your next releases and I'm sure after episode 53 it'll be smooth sailing since I doubt early FUNimation did many changes. Good luck on the path, ser.

@Eckart No problem, thanks for the support. I'm a video editor, not a professional encoder, so like I said I started this basically as a project for myself, for pretty much the reasons that you state. I'm sharing it here because I hoped someone else would get something out of it, so I'm glad you are. I'm pretty close to finishing the next batch, probably within a week or so. I'll probably take a break after 39 to weigh my options going forward. I will be completing the Ocean dub sync at the very least. After that I'd like to add in the original FUNi Dub from the singles releases, up until whenever Sabat stopped redubbing Vegeta.
are these the definitive version of the episodes that you made?

@AndyAlex91 Everything from 7+ should be definitive, as I've had no negative comments regarding syncing or encoding issues. 1-6 will get v2s with a few quality updates when I release the first "season" batch after 39.
