mini mkv?.. thanks for sharing but not for me
I mean this is encoded in H.265 HEVC. If we are going by file size, which really isn't the best way to measure it anyway, this should be equivalent quality to something encoded in H.264 AVC but double the file size. Having a 345MiB 720p AVC VBR file, for example, seems about right.
hmm, cleo with new submitter ?
grayfm, I've downloaded a H.265 HEVC file (180mb) before and it was chalky around the edges, honestly it reminded me of a mini mkv encode.. so I stay away from any files below 500mb, it's easier to notice these artifacts when your pc has a 42" screen size.
@grayfm The compression gains of HEVC have greatly been exaggerated by mini-encoders. Comparable encodes between HEVC and AVC are typically very close in file size (usually within 20MB difference in 720p). Every HEVC encode we've compared where the sizes were drastically smaller than the AVC counterpart suffered from loss of fine details and grain. Only real reason to utilize HEVC at the current time is for mini-encodes where size is more of a concern than quality such as the encodes of this topic or 4K rips to maintain the HDR which isn't supported with AVC.
