File Container: MKV Video Format: h.265/HEVC [10-bit] Video Resolution: 1920x1040 Aspect Ratio: 1.85.1 Audio Type: Dual Track 1: English (English 6.1 Surround) (default) Track 2: English (2.0 Stereo) Track 3: Japanese (5.1 Surround) Track 4: Japanese (2.0 Stereo) Audio Format: AAC-LC Subtitles: (ASS) Track 1: English Signs/Songs (default) Track 2: English Subtitles Chapters: No Video Source: Judgment v2 Notes from original encoder *This is a re-encode of my original release, since the source/MPEG2 stream is not available anymore. This is a huge improvement over the original video and as before a lot better than the BD source.* *This encode is not completely issue free and perfect. not all of the MPEG2/WMV artifacts could be fixed completely without damaging other areas of the video. The video is still quite dirty in places and not all spots have been fixed. Tbh one could probably sit on this for an eternity and won’t be able to fix them all.* *Video: – Several 1000 frames (severely damaged by MPEG2/WMV artifacts) were restored (per frame) – Several 100.000 spots on several 10.000 of frames were removed and fixed (per frame) – Frames edges were fixed (per scene) – Remnants of the Logo have been removed – Colour and range correction have been made (red/yellow tints etc.) (per scene) – Some combing remnants were fixed – Heavy sharpening artifacts were removed as good as possible (ringing/haloing) – Chroma bleeding has been fixed – Everything was cleaned up to remove encoding artifacts – Everything was stabilised – Banding was removed (per scene) – Frames were matched to the BD source (audio matches properly now)* *Audio: – Japanese audio: Sourced from a DTS-HD MA track – Japanese audio: Cut to make it properly sync with the video (bad mastering, BD audio wasn’t in sync on the BD) – Japanese audio: A missing dialogue line was added – Japanese audio: The original Japanese ending theme was re-inserted (U2’s “One Minute Warning” replaced with “Reincarnation”) – English audio: Sourced from the 6.1 DTS-ES track instead of the UK BD’s DTS-HD MA track because of severe mastering problems, same problems on the US DTS stream – English audio: Problems were missing sound effects and bad mixing (more infos here and here)* *Subtitle: – The opening Sign was redone – Song lyrics were added – Dialogue styling was adjusted – Some lines were fixed* [![0889e1277801faf8bf598125c310e1a5.png](https://extraimage.net/images/2017/12/01/0889e1277801faf8bf598125c310e1a5.png)](https://extraimage.net/image/jwxZ) [![b1ad28661228390eea51e0fb1a2df5ac.png](https://extraimage.net/images/2017/12/01/b1ad28661228390eea51e0fb1a2df5ac.png)](https://extraimage.net/image/jwxK) [![b736d73c72cebf284bff83c2026342d5.png](https://extraimage.net/images/2017/12/01/b736d73c72cebf284bff83c2026342d5.png)](https://extraimage.net/image/jwxJ)

is this a dvd upscale?
the picture quality of this release is pristine, substantially better than ALL currently available Bluray rips, even the 4k remux one. That's rare to see! I've downloaded multiple releases and compared them side-by-side on multiple scenes. This wins by miles. don't lose your time getting other versions. unfortunately it's not all roses. Both multichannel audios are severely damaged, the stereo audios are fine but are low bitrate. I grabbed the image from this release and muxed it with the audios from 4kbluray thus creating a new pristine version with the best audio & image available. You can find it mirrored in Gdrive here = https://pastebin.com/S5PwPGWB
please do a complete collection with specials and Extras ! Please !
Out of the 3 different version of this movie that i've tried, this is the winner for me. Close 2nd was https://nyaa.si/view/452536 if you prefer the grainy (original) look, colors might be a little better too or maybe just warmer, but it's twice the size and no eng dub. So both of these seem to be based on the HDTV version, which is also probably why neither of them have chapter markers, like the 3rd version i tried (a BDrip). Actually the title is misleading, this is not a BDrip, it's source is the Judgment rip, which is an HDTV rip. All BDrips and the 2.0 remake are a bit darker or just more contrasty or both, either way people's hair gets lost in dark backgrounds and the details of their clothing also mostly disappear if there is a shadow on it, maybe they did that on purpose to make it moodier, but i prefer to see the details in the HDTV version. Which is why i don't know if i should watch the original HDTV version or the 2.0 remake of it. I've never seen either, and it's kinda pointless to watch both.
Huge thanks for the re-re-encode! ;) @JoeGP: GitS 2.0 is not worth it unless a person has already seen GitS 1995 and they want to watch 2.0 out of curiosity. With 2.0 you lose the iconic "Making of Cyborg" intro (even the opening of GitS SAC 2045 looks less bland than the 2.0 version of "Making of Cyborg"), and the other changes are embarrassing (e.g. the 3DCG Motoko), crappy (e.g. some of the screens with copious amounts of yellowish/orange glow added) or just... not really necessary (e.g. some of the better looking screens or replacements of the old interfaces animated using 3DCG). It's like the dozen of "improved" versions of the original Star Wars trilogy, the difference being there was a couple of okayish changes in the case of SW (like Cloud City looking less claustrophobic). Also, in the version I've seen - a regular DVD - the sound quality was pretty bad when compared with an old DVD release of GitS 1995. The magnificent tank sequence at the end of the movie loses some of its oomph if the sound is flat. If I were you, I'd go with this release or the larger version originally uploaded by Judgment (all hail Judgment!), or the version mentioned in heynando's comment.
I agree that the Bonkai77 wins over the Judgement release based on this screenshot comparison making the rounds - http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/DP67GNNX Note the artefacts around the pink "glowing" part of the skyline around the skyscraper on the near right-hand side on the Judgement screenshot. I can't tell easily if the Bonkai77 encode has additional data that is not present in the Judgement encode or whether it's the result of extra fuzziness, but the area looks better.
This is hardly pristine. It’s definitely sharper, but at the cost of having really bad colors and artifacts in some scenes. The frontal frame of Major at approximately 1 minute gives a good measure of the image quality. Its a scene supposed to be dim and shady, but has a fake lighting to it instead. I think this is recurring for the HDTV releases, but the Major’s hair is completely off in this: http://www.framecompare.com/screenshotcomparison/99E0MNNU JPSDR’s treatment of the BD (https://nyaa.si/view/903546) has a softer and darker image but is superior by far with the addition of a light degrain and considerable sharpness gain over the source. IMO thats the best encode available for GitS '95 on the site.
